1 edit | [Speed] Call from Insight - Internet Speeds (Louisville, Ky) I got a call today from an Insight rep that said they would be in my area testing internet speeds tomorrow. They said they would need access to modem for 10 minutes. Any ideas on what this about? I figure Insight should be able to test speeds without physically touching my modem. |

Re: [Speed] Call from Insight - Internet Speeds (Louisville, Ky) If you have not requested service for speed issues, don't allow them into your home. They can push a firmware update to your (or their) modem, any time, remotely.
I'd guess two possible reasons for this "speed check".
One, pretext for a sales pitch. More than once I have had Insight sales reps knock on my door, trying to up sell me to phone and cable TV.
Two, it isn't Insight calling at all, but criminals casing your home. |

| I agree with PrivacyAlert. They can push upgrades to your modem from their central offices. I have never heard of them going around to do a speed check. You could always call Insight to verify if they indeed are needing to get in to your home to check for speed. I would be careful as it could be someone casing your home. But then again, I've heard of crazier things. |

 | reply to Question My wife got the same call today. I told her to call insight in the morning and ask about it. |

 | I just spoke to the guy, and it is, in fact, a sales pitch. I asked him flat out, and he admitted that it was. He was a very pleasant man, and he didn't hold me up for too long. So try not to be too unpleasant to these cats. They are just doing a job. |

 | I got a call yesterday from my local office saying they would have a tech person on my street today checking service. They said they were switching from analog to digital and had to come inside the house for 10 minutes, and test my modem line due to problems in the area. They scheduled between 6-7 tonight, so I cancelled my plans, and stayed home. Nobody showed, so I called my local office tonight after 7 to see if they were still coming. They checked their records, and apologized. They said there was no reason to come to my house, that the call came from the sales department, who was trying to get their 'foot in the door' and sell up services. I can't believe this. |

 | Steer: I see your point about selling stuff, and that it's their job. But lying is a bit much, and on top of that, to not even show up. It wastes peoples time. |
|
 | Happened to me too. I contacted a friend at the local news. Very shady. |

| reply to Steerepike Know all those Direct Sales Rep ad's Insight had they were hiring for..... Tis is what for, had a buddy give it a shot and their trained to on days they dont have apts to sell services to go to areas in their teritory and call existing subs and say its a speed check or a signal check, when it ends in a upsell. |
|
 | reply to Lucasbuck In reality this is a legit things as the Direct Sales Reps have found issues the customers were unaware of, again this is 3rd party info from a buddy that did this for about 3 months. |

 | reply to Question I just received a call a few minutes ago today from insightbb wanting to schedule a time they can have a tech come up and do a quality test on my broadband setup. I told them i will be unavailable tomorrow and to call me later this week to schedule.
I haven't had any outages or signal issues for at least 6 months (georgetown IN). I was a little leery on their purpose on this "quality testing" knowing they can check signal strength, flash firmware, add/disconnect services or even put filters on your line without your permission and without entering your home. I did some search in google and found this thread wondering what was all this is about.
I've been a insightbb customer for 8+ years and i have never had insight call wanting to do a quality test. I use insight for their BB services only. So i'm leaning towards of this being more of a service upgrade presentation than a legit quality service testing. I will decline if they call back. |
