farewell bellsouth/att dsl

Well I got dsl back in 2001 when it first came to my small town. I was in line to be the first to get it. After have 56k for so many years it was a blessing the BS brought 1.5mbit to our little town. since then I've had fiber with utility company at 15dn/15up and kept dsl line for redundancy. I cancelled the fiber after 5yr contract and moving. BS moved with me..went to 3.0 then to 6.0. Even had 2 dsl lines at one point at 6.0. Then I got local cable company finally got bought and and upgraded the entire city. Originally was 10dn/1.5mbit up.. then free upgrade at same price to 20mbit/2mbit... now as of today they upgraded to 50mbit/4mbit.... I will take my chance and deal with any outages but ATT has to go. Every since ATT bought BS..they have not really kept up with technological advancements in the HSI market and dont seem to care they they are being left behind. Frankly I think they want to get rid of all landlines and dsl or anything other than the wireless/mobile market. I cant continue to pay for slow inet and look at this manager, directors, vp,and ceo take home millions and not see any progress for the consumers. I'm not bashing ATT/BS as I have been pleased with them. I think in my 11 yrs with them. I've had one outage and a truck roll twice. So I wish you all the luck and happiness for those that choose to stay. I'm looking forward to the next upgrade to 100mbit and at this time no download restrictions.

Take care...

at&t is a dividend cow. If they would take 10% of the dividends they pay out and put it in the network, customers would love them. I may have over simplified things but I'm no economist.

Will this ever end ?

I golf clap to you sir for your 50/4 circuit. Now, please explain why the average joe would need that kind of bandwidth at home ? Not saying it's bad, just wayyyyy overkill IMO and please don't say it's becasue of Neflix, Hulu, 14 illegal servers, whatever.

Had Comcast Blast tier here almost 2 yrs, went from 16/2, 20/2, then last powerboost that I could calulate was at 25/4, never even came close to needing it. Sure, blazing cable modem fast, but so what.

I do enjoy my 100/5 tier. I can stream, my kid can stream, my wife can steam and or make a voip call... No one notices the other's
activity. Not to mention everything being backed up to Crashplan.

Prob not.. but I sure as hell will with all the downloading I can do now. I use to get plenty of sleep waiting on crap to d/l on 5.5mbit

That's what I figured.

I will admit, I liked my cable modem & would prob use one again if I didn't have to continuously bounce around w/ bundles. Uverse is working fine here & 12M is handling what we do. Maybe that might change down the road, but we'll see.

If I could get 5.0 with AT&T I'd be happy. For that matter if I could get the 3.0 I supposedly have I'd be happy

Well, when LTE is actually deployed, AT&T will happily sell you a USB LTE modem, and you might be able to actually get ~3 mbps downstream (for $50+ per month with a 5 GB cap).

A single person... 50/4 is overkill. 10/2 is usually enough. In a household setting where there are more than two internet active people, 50/4 isn't all that unreasonable.

But that's not the point. AT&T/BS have simply sat on their ADSL technology for *many* years without any measurable upgrades. All the money they've made they've pocketed instead of planning for a future -- where massive, expensive upgrades will be necessary. They've not remained competitive as the rest of the world has moved on. Mostly because they've not had to -- monopoly at work.

Instead of deploying infrastructure that has a future (fiber), they're chosing to continue to milk the last-mile copper that's been paid for hundreds of times over. (and probablly spending more money in the long run on pepering the landscape with a VRAD every 10 feet, so they can reach everyone.)

When they get gigabit speed to homes in .US.. then it will be overkill. As long as we are behind foreign countries.. some even still considered 3rd world that offer faster for cheaper... ATT will always be evil to me. I stuck with them for the longest. I just cant do it anymore.

But everything else you said is 100% true.

Yeah, I agree, would be great to have a FIOS type footprint here w/ AT&T services, but hey WTH does the consumer know right ?

Maybe not. But my story is almost exactly the same other than I've been testing Charter for the last couple of weeks. Bye, Bye, Bell. We've been together a long time but I wish you hadn't stopped caring.

So now, there's two loyal customers they won't lose any sleep over.

In industrial cities 100/10 fiber service typically costs 40 euros, and that includes phone and streaming tv.
The anti technology criminal racketeering enterprise known as att expends resources in preventing anyone from offering a competitive service.
