Same download Speeds after upgrading to a D3 Modem

I just upgraded to a Cisco DPQ3212 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. I ran some speed tests and downloaded a large file of Newgroups. I get roughly 12.5Mbit on downloads. I thought upgrading to a docsis 3.0 modem would result in faster download and upload speeds. I live in NW Huntsville next to Providence. I know our region has docsis 3.0

Getting a D3 modem gives you access to the 4 bonded downstream channels. The bonded channels help with network congestion.

D3 allows for much greater download speeds but only if you subscribe to the faster tier. If you want 25Mbit down and 5Mbit up you need call and ask for "Edge" service.

12/2 sounds like the new basic D3 speeds. I found this PR on Knology's site for Huntsville dated 02/01/2010:

»www.knology.com/media/pr ··· fm?id=81
quote:
Knology Internet will deliver top speeds with DOCSIS 3.0:

Residential Knology Internet
12 megabit download
2 megabit upload

Residential Knology Edge™
25 megabit download
5 megabit upload
Maybe Knology hasn't pushed a config file out for the Ciscos? I'm running a Moto 6120 (no edge) and get 13/3 usually and I believe Dusty has a 6120 as well but he has Edge with Edge speeds, but we both are in Panama City area.

Maybe power cycle the modem again and then call to see if tech has a config file out for the Ciscos. Either way, it seems like you should see 25/5 so maybe call tech and see what they say.

Both bigdusty and goober22 are right. Huntsville is a D3 ready division. There is 12/2 and 25/5 speeds. however a D3 modem is not needed to run even the 25/5 speeds. D2 modem will run 25/5 speeds fine. It sounds like you only have the 12/2 speeds setup on the account. If you want the 25/5 speeds you will need to call and have the account upgraded.
