 | reply to diskace Will you post Quebec only prices? Or will you treat the people of Ontario with the same high regard and respect as you would any other people and post prices for both provinces, unlike another ISP. |
|
 | reply to diskace Ebox is montreal right?
Kinda getting the runaround with TS about the cable rates in Quebec |

| Because the tariffs stipulate different speeds for Nontario and Qwobec, ISPs will be forced to have different pricing for the provinces.
Remember that a higher speed can cause higher demand for bandwidth and thus higher costs.
Having said this, I am really hoping diskace sharpens his pencil big time to keep pricing low, evcen if it means one fewer ski tri to the french alps per year. |

You can ski backcountry/everywhere with no chances of falling in a glacier crack. He should perhaps go there because it's even cheaper. That quote btw was by the maneige.com ski resort evaluator that I am now. |

I am not sure why the Quebec rates would not be released at the same time as Ontario, we are all customers. |

 | reply to diskace Let's hope your new prices for cable in Quebec are great... |

| reply to Dunlop Dunlop, you are correct. Since the pricing wa published all at the same time in the 703 decision, the ISPs should be able to unveil their new pricing all at the same time.
In the case of DSL for Nontario and Qwobec, ISPs have no choice but to adopt the new rate structure because they come into effect Feb 1.
In the case of cable, existing TPIA have the option to be grandfathered under the old rates for a while so in cases where the new rates are higher, ISPs may wish to hang on to the old rates as long as possible and hence, no changes. (But the ISPs should then say something "cable rates in province X will not change for at least 6 months")
ISPs may also wish to hang on to old rates for a few months to reduce network changes so they can better analyse the imapct of FTTN speeds on their own network. They will be busy enough with customers calling in to change speeds (and many installs for the upgrade to VDSL, modem shipments etc).
However, in the case of Videotron, if the new rates are to be lower and not have Videotron imposed limits, then there may be incentive to switch to the new rates. |

 | reply to germster said by germster:More monthly bandwidth for 15 mbps and up cable in QC is all I want Videotrons submission did not allow for more B/W that I recall. However Ebox can play with prices (max charges, B/W blocks, etc) to make different prices/schemes. But nothing spectacular. |

I bet diskace made that post from his blackberry while on a chairlift, and he hopes to write up the new rates on a napkin later this afternoon while doing some après ski at the resort's bar |

| reply to virusster if ebox goes for the new aggregated POI pricing, it will be devoid of Videotron dicated UBB charges and will be capacity based. This gives ebox more flexibility.
Question is whether they will do cable at same time as dsl or if they will wait a certain time before updating cable rates. |

En EnferThis account has been compromised join:2003-07-25 Montreal, QC kudos:3 | reply to diskace If I remember correctly, Vidéotron submitted high TPIA prices that still includes heavy monthly caps anyways.
Also, as I mentionned in the thread in december, Quebec law states that companies must require a 30-days notice before any price change: »www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/WebForms/Suje···ion.aspx
Problem is, Bhell and Vidéotron had until Dec 23 to submit their price, meaning wholesale ISPs had between xmas and new year's day to crunch the numbers and submit them on january 2nd to reach the 30-days notice to february 1st deadline... which isn't fair to challenge/complain about/refuse Bhell's and Vidéotron's overflated pricing. -- Tell your children over dinner, "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go." |

| The big picture pricing has been known since November 15th.
The tariffs added details on implementation (for instance segradation of business and residential customers).
So ISPs have had plenty of time to work on their retail plans. They are more likely playing cat and mouse game hoping oithers will unveil their pricing so they can then adjust theirs to be better.
We saw the same thing last year with UBB when ISPs delayed until very last minute announcing new rates. |

 | reply to En Enfer said by En Enfer:If I remember correctly, Vidéotron submitted high TPIA prices that still includes heavy monthly caps anyways. If you re-read Videotron's (and Rogers') pages, there are two sets of rates: one set is the old tariffs for ISPs that choose to continue with the old pricing and arrangements (to be discontinued in two years) and the other set is the CRTC's capacity-based rates for ISPs migrating to aggregated POIs. The aggregated rates have no explicit caps or UBB. |
|
 | reply to virusster Please say it isn't so. I don't have FTTN available in my area and my only hope for higher speeds than 6Mbps is a Videotron reseller.. So far it doesn't look good |

It might well depend upon the level of subsidization which you/we can afford into his PopCorn budget.
EDIT : Having read further now, I see that you have already considered that course of action. |
