Re: [HSI] Need DOCSIS 3.0 modem now?

Is this a compatibility issue similar mainly in theory, not in technical details, to how DOCSIS 2.0 modems shouldn't be used on a 3.0 network? Though, I'm not sure I have a Gigabyte enabled router. Use a Netgear Prosafe that was purchased a few years ago. Router for the most part has been reliable and cables have been in use for a few years and have been reliable.

Still cool to learn new stuff and stash it in the hopes one day when one needs it, one remembers it.

tenweb,

Those were linemen running out noise issues from within a node the first time you talked to them. They identified that line going to your attic as one causing the issue. I've actually seen cable fitting in the living room behind the wall plate send enough noise into the cable plant to knock off modems, so they were definitely not feeding you a line of BS. No worries, it happens all the time.

I am very familiar with the guys in the Fort Worth area. They're dealing with a ton of legacy issues and they're cleaning everything up to make that plant as efficient as possible. Bear with them. They're dealing with thousands of miles of cable plant and cleaning it up one span at a time.

I tested my connection at this site and that is where I found all the jitter issues. It is free and I originally was made aware of it from Sprint because I have a Sprint Airave Access Point (femtocell) and was having connection issues.

That speedtest is bullshit. Just to let you know.

I actually got techs to come out. They replaced the line going from box to house. Took a look - Some values had actually deteriorated further while the Upstream value got better. Went from 30-32 to 37-39dBmV.

7 dB is actually quite an improvement. That's 5X more signal getting through.

Where would you recommend?

That is actually incorrect. The Upstream signal is really getting lower from a technical standpoint. The only way that could have changed like it did is that an active was running out wrong and they adjusted the levels.

oh and BTW that signal changing is still a good thing, not a bad thing
