 | TSI Marc, Quebec cable announcement, when? Hi.
The other thread about the price hikes is huge and any announcement in there will get lost.
Marc, so you don't suffer death by a thousand cuts, do you have an ETA about when you plan to announce your pricing and packaging for your Quebec cable subscribers?
Thanks. |
|
 | The official word is no change.
Then Ebox released good cable rates (versus the old crazy videotron ones) as well as better DSL ones
I imagine TS will have something announced soon to not lose a lot of their Quebec DSL users |

 | reply to malquin Vancouver has been waiting for TSI's response to Shaw's new plans and prices/caps for several months, and is still waiting on a response to the 'new' changes in regards to the last CRTC decision.
Without certainty about pricing how can a new customer decide to join?
[And I was just given the 'we're waiting to hear from shaw' in the direct forum, but that makes so little sense I'm not going to argue with the rep that said so. Obviously TSI is waiting on TSI, not shaw.] |

urby join:2010-05-21 Montreal, QC | Sorry, I meant about dunlop's statement about "The official word is no change". Stupid quick reply doesn't auto-quote. |
|
 | i don't think the statement is valid, he probably contacted tek support and got someone not really aware of the actual situation. just like the other dude thought the cable price on teksavvy website were for quebec as well because a tek rep told him so |
|
urby join:2010-05-21 Montreal, QC | Well I sincerely hope this is the case. I've always been happy with Tek but if they don't come out with new rates similar to EBox, I'm going to have to switch... That said, I would ask everyone on Tek Cable in QC, or everyone thinking about Cable in QC not to do anything rash. My personal story is that I pay for 30/2 meg service, but somehow Tek provisioned my line for 60/3 and even though I go over my cap (technically 120GB) regularly, I've never been billed for overage (even back when I was on 8 megabits!!). So this is one stand-up company that I don't want to leave anytime soon. (Though I'm extremely lucky with regards to paying for 30 but getting 60).
Still, Teksavvy's got to get with the program a little faster... |

They only corrected it many hours later.
On topic, teksavvy will have to make a decision. While not as good as the Ontario rates the Ebox rates for cable in Quebec now completely blow Teksavvy's rates out of the water.
It all comes down to a numbers game of how many potential customers lost versus the cost of being able to compete with Ebox.
If they can't, Ebox could carve out a nice niche for themselves.
I've mentioned before that I love Teksavvy, but due to the fact I have to pay a dry loop fee I can get a lot more for my dollar with Ebox's cable rates (I'm not a heavy downloader) |

| reply to malquin Honestly, I don't think TSI is worried about losing Quebec Cable subs...no offense to those in Quebec on Cable, but when Marc said the majority of their Quebec userbase was on DSL there was a reason why he said it like that...
If that means they bleed those users over to Ebox and other QC Cable providers I'm sure they're willing to take the hit vs. the potential headache I'm sure of upgrading their Videotron infrastructure to support more users....
They're in a "wait" kind of mode after pouring what I want to say is Millions of dollars into the Rogers Ontario Cable infrastructure if he said they have over 70gig of links/capacity, I'm sure that's not cheap...
I don't mean any disrespect, but they're just not worried at this point and don't have the neccessary infrastructure in place....they've probably learned from their Rogers "challenges" and don't want to make the same mistake twice. |
|
 | I agree, I'm not faulting them for it but it is a reality they face. Not just cable subs, but lower download DSL users like myself
I have no idea what the percentage of Quebec DSL subs is. |

 | reply to nitzguy said by nitzguy: but when Marc said the majority of their Quebec userbase was on DSL there was a reason why he said it like that... the only reason people in quebec with teksavvy are on dsl is because teksavvy couldn't offer anything interesting for cable, videotron was asking way too much, but now, things have changed, just look at ebox price before and now. 60mbps before $80, now $55, and the cap went from 150gb to 250
i think teksavvy is not going to let quebec user down just for the sake of the argument i think pretty soon tek is going to offer something like this for cable 15mbps $42 30mbps $50 60mbps $57 |

I'm on tek dsl 6mbps 300Gb download and with tek pots phone service too. The price will increase to $35 for dsl. I'm effectively getting only 2.5mbps because I'm too far to the CO. I stuck with tek for the 300 GB download limit. With Netflix it's a necessity, but my max ever I used was 125Gb.
The ebox cable rate just announced for 8mbps and 250GB is for $37. I know for a fact cable will get the full 8mbps easily on the cable to my house. I never went back to cable before because of the low and overpriced caps Videotron imposed on all cable providers in Qc.
I will favour staying with tek over switching if the alternative is reasonable. As it stands if tek doesn't adjust, I would consider moving over. For another $2 it would triple the speed and make it much easier to view Netflix in HD when available without going over 250GB. |

Then it sounds like you have a solution...it would look to be Electronic Box. Again, with the explosive growth TSI saw with their Rogers rollout, I don't think they're ready for a similiar rollout in Videotron land...perhaps Electronic Box is....I'm sure that TSI's link I think right now is at 1gig...and they probably have much less control over it...again its not that they don't want to offer it I'm sure, but its just a matter of keeping demand low so that they cover their current costs....seriously, nothing against anyone who's in that territory, but I just don't see TSI biting off more than they can chew at this point...and they're still chewing on the Rogers cable bone. |

| I just read the ebox pricing thread in the Canadian forum. BigBenBeaub talked with a tek csr. She said Qc cable pricing should come out next week.
Here's the quote. »Electronic Box pricing for 2012
said by BigBenBeaub:just talked with an person at teksavvy and she told me that the prices for cable on the videotron network in quebec are going to be out next week. She also told me that there will be unlimited plan for cable on speed 15 and faster.
still waiting ! I'll wait too. I'd much prefer to stay with tek than any other company because they always offered more for their customers. Switching will be the last resort choice. |
|
 | In 5 days, ill have to call videotron to stop the services. And i'll stay with tek for my dsl line at my chalet. |

There is also a quote from CSRLinda (not from her directly) on the pricing thread here that they are not changing the Quebec rates, it would be nice to get an official response either way.

The whole game changed now. TSI could dismiss Quebec Cable because EVERYONE were stuck with those crappy rates. So they stand to lose a lot of DSL customers to Cable if they don't compete.
Think about all the people who DSL who can't upgrade to 25mbps VDSL2 because of service availability. They'll jump ships if they want more speed. |

Is this going to stick or are we, some day soon, going to pay PST and/or HST on Teksavvy's services? That's more of a question for the Quebec government. However, if they are really harmonizing with the GST this time, then it would apply (just like it did in Ontario when they harmonized the taxes). Unless, of course, Quebec exempts such services from the provincial portion of the tax. |
