| [360] HDMI and VGA I've been using the VGA cable for a while now. Supposedly the picture quality is about the same when compared to HDMI. I recently upgraded to a slim and wanted to try HDMI since I now have an optical cable port. I used the VGA since it came attached with an optical port.
I notice on the HDMI that the screen is very dark and a bit grainy. I know it's not the cable because I used it on my PS3 and the picture is perfect. I actually have another friend who always complains that his picture is dark. I do not want to mess with the TV settings as the brightness is perfect when I watch TV, or like stated earlier is perfectly fine on the PS3 as well as my PC.
Does anyone else notice a dark picture while using HDMI? I can't believe there are no settings on the xbox itself to fix this. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

 | Havent had that issue... HDMI has always looked better than VGA on my TV. The Xbox does have some display settings you can change (like the HDMI reference levels and resolution) but they probably wont help much.. You stated that you dont want to adjust the settings on your TV, but that might be your only option.. Besides, each input on your TV (HDMI, VGA, etc) should have its own separate picture settings (at least on my TV they do) so you shouldnt have an issue watching TV or using your PS3 (they should each be connected to their own separate inputs). |

| I believe my tv has the same settings no matter the input. The PS3 HDMI slot is also the slot I used to test the 360. Either way I guess I will just continue to use VGA. There really isn't much difference in the quality anyway and for some reason at least on the xbox, the VGA looks way better. I had the HDMI set to 1080p and tried the different color outputs but they all looked dark and a bit grainy to me. -- Mets, Cowboys, Devils |

 | reply to MuDvAyNe I got the dark screen on the HDMI as well. My friend does not have such issue. I think it is my TV's fault. |

Da Man join:2008-05-08 Hanover, PA | reply to MuDvAyNe Mosts TVs expect PC levels (0-255) from VGA but the Xbox outputs TV (16-235). Changing reference levels to expanded fixes it for VGA but I don't think you can unfix it for HDMI. |
