1 edit | Reasons why I should stay with TWC? So my family is seriously considering switching to Fios. We have had TWC since the 80's. Our cable bill is now topping $185 a month. We have 3 HD boxes, sports package, hbo, 10/. 5 Internet, and unlimited voip telephone. Fios is offering us their ultimate hd package with 3 boxes including a free multiroom Dvr for life, 25/25 Internet, and unlimited voip telephone for $ 145 plus taxes and fees.
What are some reasons why I should stay with TWC? Channel wise I would be losing Fox Soccer channel plus. Didn't see to many other channel issues. Please let me know your thoughts. My dad wants to switch tomorrow but I wanted to make sure it was the best thing to do...
Bottom line, what does TWC offer that merits staying with them? |

 | Well have you like the Rangers, Knicks, Islanders and Devils, it would be worth while to switch. Plus as an added bonus you would receive the NFL Network and many stations TWC refuses to carry. Throw in an increase in upload and download speeds and it is a no brainer! |

Contract disputes happen with all providers at some point. I am a huge Rangers fan and watch every game. But I understand that at some point Fios and MSG will have an issue as well. Cablevision just let Fios get MSG HD. |

| reply to nyrmetros As a former TWC customer for many years, that switched to FiOS a couple of years ago, personally there is nothing about TWC that I preferred over FiOS. I did miss MSG HD, but now I have that too. Even if TWC cost me less than FiOS, which it doesn't, I would never go back. I pay less. I have better HD picture quality. And I have much better channel selection (for me). |
|
 | reply to clueless They could also call TWC and see if a promotional rate is available to lower the bill. |

 | reply to nyrmetros Am I correct in assuming that any service other than "cable" requires a "box" of some kind? One of the things I do like about TWC is being able to split the cable coming out of the wall and running "raw" cable to one of my TV inputs. In addition, I have a dual tuner TiVo and would lose the dual tuner capability with any other service. Granted, with uVerse for example, one can record up to 4 channels simultaneously but as I understand it no other service has the "wish list" functionality that TiVo has. Please correct me if my understanding is incorrect. |

| reply to Phil75070 Fios sends QAM signalling over the fiber, which the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) then puts on coax. Any QAM tuner can pick it up (which is why Fios users can use cable card tuners). They don't have analog NTSC signals though, but most cable companies are headed in that direction too. |

 | reply to nyrmetros I really thought that more people here would be defending TWC. lol |

Re: Reasons why I should stay with TWC? The only reason I have stayed with TWC is that everytime I try to cancel them and go to someone else they throw free stuff at me, like right now I have 3 DVR's that I'm getting free service on, so I keep them. I've been looking at that new set up DTV has with the 5 tuner DVR and it looks really nice, so I'm just waiting it out to see what happens. So far TWC hasnt blinked when I call after my bill goes up and they keep giving me discounts and free stuff. Thats why I have stayed with them. I've had them forever. Been with them since before they were AT&T, then they were Comcast, then TWC took over from there. Always been great service with them. No major problems or outages. With me it's about the price for now. I tried to get internet with them once when they were Comcast and it worked great, then when TWC took over the internet, service went downhill and they could never figure out what was wrong with it. I use AT&T internet now. I have a friend that has Verizon and they are very happy with it but I cant get it here in my area. |

 | Weather conditions in some areas can affect service. I visited friends on NYE who subscribe to both TWC and Direct TV. Because of the wind and snowstorm, they could not get any satellite signal, so watched the ball drop with TWC service. |

1 edit | reply to nyrmetros Looks like I am pulling the trigger on Fios today. yowzers!
Done. Will be paying $145 a month for 2 years. Getting 1 SD box, 1 multiroom DVR for life, 2 HD boxes, 25/25 internet, and unlimited voip.
What are the odds I come running back to TWC and $185 a month?? |

| Actually, there is a significant number of subscribers who do run back to TWC, often within a few days of porting the phone number to Verizon. I spent nearly an hour with with a customer last week who deeply regretted the decision, since the phone and internet service with Fios was inadequate. Happens every day. |
