Re: Troubleshooting advice for WoW disconnects

I'm still willing to write this off as an addon issue... I could easily see husband or wife seeing an update message, and upgrading within minutes of each other. Out of date, or especially addons Bliz disables, will do insane things to the client side. I've only seen the OP say they've disabled Skada... My guess is Bartenter, Omen, Healbot and a [few?] more may be installed.

The worse I've ever seen was during ICC... it would show you exactly where goos and things were going to land. When Bliz disabled it, it took my rig down to 3 fps (when I usually see upwards of 200).

Until OP (and wife) runs a LFR with NO addons we're essentially chasing our tails.

not yet, we aren't. I rebuilt the network, and noticed a marked improvement on the wireless network. kids are still ill, so we may not get a shot at LFR. All of our addons are up to date (via curse downloader). thanks for all of your help... hopefully this thing will be resolved.

2 LFRs down... no simultaneous client crashes. My wife's client crashed mere seconds before DW died on madness... by the time she got logged back in... loot was being distributed... she didn't get to roll. /sigh.

Time to start trimming addons.

Fun... It's usually addons that are "chatty" like skada, dbm/big wigs/etc.

Thank you for posting this.
I have noticed that My sons and I also have been getting disconnected from Battlenet often. I run on a wireless linux box, they on wired windows boxes. Sometimes it is at the same time, or within minutes of each other. Last night I was disconnected for about 3 minutes. I just stayed in the game. I noticed my toon can fly/float when disconnected. it's kinda fun, for about 1 or 2 seconds.

One my wired windows box, I notice my network connection change from internet to local only every so often, about once or twice a day. I think it could be the router, it's about 5/6 years old. Dunno if it's the cable modem. Though Time Warner has repeatedly tried to get me to "rent" their modem, vs me buying one at a store. The current modem is about 3 years old.

Upgrading my primary router, and eliminating the second one helped a great deal. I was seeing dropped packed throughout the day and called tech support (/fist at Comcast) and they insisted they didn't see any dropped packets. They say my modem is just fine (I bought my own). My wireless signal is only used for netfilx and updating the PS3 and Wii software or game demos.

I've encountered some new problems with Windows7 and my USB headset... which is odd... but if that persists it will become a new thread.

As for the dual-crashes... we've been doing pretty well. I am now using the 64bit client. The only problem has been a couple of catastrophic lock-ups (one due to USB IRQ full blue screen and everything) and the others I think are due to addons. I've since dumped SUF and Ace3 framework. Seams to be running much more smoothly now.

I manually went through the add ons that I have. I was surprised that many that Curse said were up to date, were actually obsolete.
Meaning either the add on developer made a new version, or they stopped making it all together.

Now my linux version of wow seems to work a tad faster.

That's one thing about the Curse Updater that irritates me...

They don't handle forked/deprecated/replaced addons worth a damn.

Yeah. seems the curse updater's only checks to see if there is a newer version of any given addon... if there is none, it tells the user their addon is "up to date". I will be paying closer attention to this in the future.

Offtopic but a side note - you said you dumped SUF. What did you replace it with? Just asking cause I have SUF as well.

I haven't yet replaced it. I am using the stock blizz UI atm... but I did find a small addon that improves the player/target/focus frames a bit: UnitFramesImproved. I also have the addon that shows Raid markers on the RaidUI (Blizzard Raid Frame - Raid Icons). The blizz raid UI isn't updating well when the raid composition changes (like in LFR or BGs), So I may try something less commonly used.
