Radio Wave Emitter/Receiver Conductors

High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (Alaska)

I know this may not be HAM ham, but being a so called "powerfull antenna" who knows best, but a radio operator?

Ive read that (well) I have seen that the address on there site is related to a base in Albuquerque, NM 87117. The group seem to have two divisions "Directed Energy" and "Space Vehicles"

What type of Antenna do they have? What does the array help with?
I would image that they can have voice communication there as well as vehicle control and a very high power energy device.

IIRC, they use crossed dipoles, spaced above the ground plane at a distance designed to send the energy up.
The array is a collection of individual antenna/power modules. It's more efficient to have each antenna supplied by it's own power amplifier.
And I'll guess it also allows some beam-steering, too.

Thanks for the info, Its quite the interesting set up. No wonder its been a controversial site. And when there HQ in Albuquerque have a "Directed Energy" and "Space Vehicles" division, along with some interesting public papers, it just strengthens the controversy surrounding HAARP.

I would image that the array would have no problem sending a signal into deep space. The wiki said the array is capable of Generating extremely low frequency waves in the 0.1 Hz range. Ive heard that the station is used to transmit ELH or VLF signals to communicate with submarines deep in the ocean.

I would imagine there is alot that could be done from such a set up. Found more stuff on there antenna: »www.haarp.alaska.edu/haarp/ant.html

Some Performance Parameters for the HAARP Antenna System:

Size: 1040 feet X 1280 feet
Area: 30.6 acres
Directivity:
3 Mhz 100 (20 dB)
10 Mhz 1000 (30 dB)
Main Lobe Beamwidth:
3 Mhz 15 deg
10 Mhz 5 deg
Operating Frequency: 2.8 - 10 Mhz
Pointing Angle: Within 30 degrees of Vertical
Reposition Time: 15 deg. within 15 microseconds
Polarization: Left/Right Hand Circular, Linear
Sidelobe Control: Full - By Element Tapering
Maximum VSWR: 3.2:1

Eric Nichols, KL7AJ, spent a good deal of time working on HAARP. He is a regular on QRZ.com and has written a couple of books.

I think he even designed some of it too.

But yeah, it's powerful stuff.

Well based on that the thing was primarily funded by Navy and Air Force funds. And that it is capable of generating ELH signals I bet my money that that's is it's primary mission. Space signals are just a secondary benifit.

I will also bet that nobody with out a top secret compartmented clerance can get anywhere close to the contol building.

We have a similar thing here in Cochise county called an aerostat. If you try and get anywhere close a nice guy with an M16 comes out and politely ask that you just move on down the road.

ELH is a type of projector lamp. I think we want ELF here.

Jesse "The Body/Governor/Nutcase" Ventura did a peice on the HAARP site on his Conspiracy TV show... It was interesting; even if he and his team are bug-shite crazy.

I thought maybe you meant ELF.....

BUT...I don't think HAARP will transmit below 1.8MHz. Everything I've read about it, and looking at all the pix posted online, indicates it's strictly HF.

DrJim,I guess missed the part about transmissions down to 0.1Hz..
