 | Confused about DNS Setttings on 327W My 327W has 192.168.1.1 ("dslrouter") as the primary DNS server. I would like to use Google DNS or OpenDNS as my DNS servers. I see that I can add them, but what does that mean? How does the 327W act as a DNS server?
Sorry for the ignorance. |

Any dns requests that are not located on the lan are passed on to the public dns ip(s) |
 | The NIC has the google server addresses. If I change that to "obtain DNS automatically", will it use the dslrouter? |

 | And if the local router doesn't have the info, where does it go? |

 | That was it.
Is there any advantage in setting OpenDNS or Google DNS server IP addresses in the router? |
wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy kudos:1 | I don't think open dns or google dns offer any advantages over the isp dns |
 | Are you saying that if the local router doesn't find what it wants, it passes the request to Verizon's DNS servers? |
 wayjacPremium,MVM join:2001-12-22 Indy kudos:1 | Yes that's what I'm saying |
 | OK, thanks. |
