Gnome 3 and seperate X screens

I run Debian Testing with an nVidia FX5200 graphics card using the Nouveau drivers and Gnome 3.0.2

A TV is plugged into the TV out socket on the graphics card and with Gnome 2.x I had the monitor and TV running as two separate X screens. Since Testing upgraded to Gnome 3 the separate screens have merged into one large virtual desktop.

Has anyone managed to set up separate X screens on Gnome 3.0.x? Is it a wild goose chase?

I've been searching and experimenting on and off since November and still haven't found a way.
