 | [TiVo] Major TiVo HDUI update Just saw that TiVo is currently rolling out a major update to retail Premiere boxes that finally upgrades the program guide and many other elements to HD. It also adds Premiere-to-Premiere multi-room streaming, and a bunch of other features: »www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/tivo···ng-more/
Is there any chance we'll be seeing this update anytime soon?
The article also mentions that an official Android app for the TiVo is now available. |

I believe the retail release is 20.x and we will most likely roll it when we get to 21.X (it goes from 14.9 to 20.x just FYI). I don't have the exact timeline but it will be a couple months at least.
This is a pretty major rewrite for TiVo on the 20.x software and I'm going to wait a bit before bringing it here just to ensure it's stable and responsive.
The Android App will work with 14.9 I believe as well since I have been playing with it at home and it works great with my 14.9 TiVo's. -- Jason Nealis, Sr. Director, Video Product and Video Operations |

 | reply to machpost Jason - does that mean that if I have one retail TiVo and one RCN Tivo that I wouldn't be able to use premiere to premiere streaming until you roll out the upgrade to RCN users?
This makes me think twice about the Q/Preview bundle and makes me wonder if two Premieres might be the way to go. Same number of overall tuners, double the total hard drive capacity, being able to initiate a recording from both devices, the ability to pause live tv on both devices...the only thing missing that I can see would be only having to manage one season pass list (which is still a WONDERFUL feature, if you ask me). |
|
 | I am not sure of the financials here for RCN(which could dictate whether or not this upgrade is even rolled out to us) but I would think that there would be little reason to get a Q/preview over 2 Premieres. Now if the Q had the 1TB hard drive and the ability to record/pause on the previews(via one of the Q's tuners)--THEN your talking. But as it stands right now, once the multi room streaming hits on the premieres, there is very little reason to purchase the Q/preview package. IMO... |

We would have to see down the line, the problem is you MUST be hardwired for this solution to work.. If we enabled then everyone with a wireless TiVo would call in and say when they multi room a show it breaks up.
The 21.X update for US is going to happen sometime in MAY at this point..
The Android App should work out of the box for all RCN TiVo Customers... -- Jason Nealis, Sr. Director, Video Product and Video Operations |

 | Thanks for the info Jason - that was very helpful.
This would all be moot if there was just a small buffer on the Q boxes that allowed us to pause live TV...it's just one tiny feature that keeps it from being the perfect solution!
So it sounds like the choice really becomes the Q/Preview bundle from RCN vs. 2 retail TiVo Premieres, which really boils down to choosing whether you want On Demand functionality vs. having the ability to pause live TV in your second room. My vote is still the Q/Preview with RCN, and then if you ever do add the premiere to premiere streaming, I'll probably switch to that. |

It can't find any compatible tivo's on the network when it does its search. Signing in through tivo.com works but with expected reduced functionality. The tivo app troubleshooting section is non functional as well. Both of our premieres have network remote enabled and have tried restarting everything to make sure. Do we need the 14.2 update or am i missing something? |

 | reply to rcnman Hi Jason, I'm running 20.2-01-2 on my Premiere and Premiere Elite and all I can say is "wow". Its an incredible step forward from 14.9.2 in both aesthetics and performance. Both boxes appear to be very stable at this point. ~Sam |

 | reply to Zahl Zahl-- couple of things... make sure you have the latest version updated through the App store. Then if you're still having problems, I've found resetting my router does the trick (simple power cycle or if you can access the reset function through the router web page).

ZahlTinBoy join:2003-02-12 Watertown, MA | Thanks much but its one of the first things I tried. Going by the app feedback -and personal use- it seems like it needs to mature a little more. Its probably not compatible with android 4 yet and I cannot even get it to install on the xoom to test (screen size limitation?) |

NikAmi join:2009-09-12 Easton, PA | reply to machpost Can you guys make sure that we get Netflix included on the next software release? Now that Netflix and Showtime are no longer in business together we should be able to get it on the box unless RCN blocks it right? |
|
 | I believe Starz is also a driving factor in RCN not allowing Netflix on their TiVo boxes. I believe that agreement expires at the end of February. RCN will probably reevaluate their options rhen. |

Completed HDUI, Parental Controls, etc.? |

Also heard from TiVo that the Preview should also be getting the HD guide in the future |

 | reply to machpost It sounds like the 21.x update should be coming along soon to retail boxes. Is a late April-May rollout still likely for RCN TiVos? |
