[HN9000] HN9000 - uploads OK, downloads REALLY slow I have an HN9000 modem providing me with service in Canada, using Galaxy Broadband as the Canadian supplier of HughesNet services. Lately, my service has been really slow - dial-up speed slow for downloads. Speed tests are always about the same - downloads in the 40 - 75kbps range, but the uploads are always in the 140 - 165 kbps range. Tech support says that the modem is to blame, but I don't really believe them...if that was the case, my uploads should also be slow, I think. Their remedy - buy a new modem for $299 and see what that does. Anyone else experiencing this? Your help would be appreciated.

reply to SlowCanuck The software I used on the previous tech info was TCPOptimizer from Speedguide.net. System.ini edit was done with sysedit (Start, Run, Sysedit). I have the low-budget package with Hughes and an HN9000 modem hooked up on the Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network that came with my computer. I get 2100 down and 125 up.

reply to SlowCanuck I have not exceed FAP. My modem blue lights blink as normal. Rebooted HN9000, no difference still speedtest says download zero, upload 192. This is so slow and we did upgrade to get more bites after repeated frustrations with FAP. Paying 70/mo for this speed? My dish says it is getting signal strength 169. Trans=25; Rec=25 no error codes. Got system Oct 2008. On line tech said I probably needed to buy a new modem, no longer under warrantee. Cked HN9000 modem also using my mac laptop, laptop had "slow" issues too so not either of my computer(s). No wireless modem plugged in, HN 9000 plugged directly into computer. How can I "fix the HN9000" and not have to buy another? All blue lights are blue lights and Trans/Rec alternate flashing blue. Now that HN has settled the lawsuit, have they decided to dial us all down so they can provide services to too many customers as I have heard? Need advice. What about AT&T aircard or other option??? Wildblue or other options, Pay almost 70/mo and don't have the "speed" and service they advertise. Live in country in TN on 12 acres.

reply to SlowCanuck I'm having the same problem. My download speed has averaged anywhere from as slow as 17 to 225. My upload speed has been an average of 198. Last nite, after talking with them, my download speed shot up to 1876 kbps. I thought the problem was fixed. This morning, my download speed is 175 kbps. Note that during all of this fluctuation, my computer equipment is the same. As soon as an internet service is available, I'm switching.
