| Best cable modem for Quebec Cable (docsis3) Hello,
I'll drop my 2 lines mlppp in favor of cable at 30 or 60mbps in February. (fuck you Bhell! ) Is there a cable modem better than another?
Teksavvy is selling the Motorola SB6120. ElectronicBox is selling the Scientific Atlanta DPC2505. The SB6120 is also sold by TigerDirect.
I read that the SB6120 support bounding on 4 channels while the DPC2505 is supporting only on 3. Does it change anything right now? Does the DPC2505 risk to be replaced sooner than the SB6120 for this reason? |

The SB6180 is the counterpart of the DCM475 but have stability issues with Videotron equipments. -- Electronic Box Inc. - Jean-Philippe Béïque |

Yes otherwise we would not be selling it. The DCM 475 is carried by technicolor, the same company that make the SpeedTouch modem for ADSL which has a pretty strong reputation. The DCM 475 apparently have some overheating issues but we have yet to receive one defective due to that. Videotron is also replacing their stock of Motorola by the DCM 475 since they can get a working firmware (STAC 55.01) that work well on their network + they are a bit cheaper. The counterpart of the DCM 475 is the Motorola SB6180 which has 8 channels but it is apparently unreliable on Videotron network. From what i heard, Motorola did not collaborate with Videotron to get a working firmware so Videotron went to Thomson. Thats all i know.
Make sure to get a DCM 475 with the proper firmware (STAC 55.01) otherwise it will not work. The DCM 475 from ontario on Rogers do not use the same firmware and will NOT work. I would recommend that you place the modem in a cool area. Let your modem breath, do not stack any router or other devices over your DCM 475 so heat can dissipate.
The SB6120 is also a good modem with no known problem. The only disadvantage would be that it is no longer produced + it has only 4 channels vs 8 on the DCM 475. Make sure that you do not buy the SB6121, some website still list the SB6120 but it is in fact the SB6121. -- Electronic Box Inc. - Jean-Philippe Béïque |

I noticed in the CRTC filings, that there was no mention of the 120 tier being available to the third party guys. Unless I missed it..... |

When I switch to you guys next month, I may as well buy the modem from you. Even if you buy online, there's shipping, and that can eat up any savings anyways. Is the DCM475 just a modem or a combo modem/router? |

TPIA price is 37,01$ by line.
I'm also interested to know what modem Videotron is using for TGV120.
TGV120 is also available in Laval. |

 | reply to ohmer diskace, i've just bought a Motorola SB6210. You are telling that Videotron have problems with this model. What kind of problems do they have? Should i return the unit and buy another one if i go with Ebox? |

Silly question: Wouldn't Vidéotron simply upgrade the firmware of the modem as it is connected to the network the first time? |

However I heard that for speed above 30 mbps you need SB6120 not DCM475. It means that DCM475 is for speeds below 30 Mbps. Could it be right. |

I'm using TekSavvy Quebec with a DPC2100r2 and when I connected to Videotron for the first time it got a firmware upgrade so is the issue just that Videotron doesn't have the update firmware or won't push it on connection? |
