 | Remote Desktop blocked Hello,
My workplace connection is in a VPN tunnel.
I can browse the internet, can connect home with FTP but I cannot connect with Remote desktop.
I can connect with Remote desktop inside my workplace and I can connect home with Remote desktop from elsewhere out of my workplace. So the error isn't coming from my side.
I even changed the Remote desktop port to 21 thinking that they were blocking the outside traffic on the remote desktop port but still no avail.
How exactly could they block this traffic? |

| What OS is on the office PC? Win 7 has a setup selection under the Remote tab of System Properties. In the lower section of the tab the Administrator has the ability to configure who can access the Remote Desktop, and even require Network Level Authentication before you can connect. |

Re: Remote Desktop blocked It sounds like they're blocking the protocol itself. |

 | reply to ducky said by ducky:How exactly could they block this traffic? - Firewall Rule
- RDP service is disabled on all corporate PCs
- Not fully passing authentication with the VPN
- ...or my personal favorite, "because the corporate security policy which I didn't write but just enforce says so."
Take your pick ducky, but if it's the last one, a) best of luck coming up with a business justification for RDP access over VPN, or b) you're SOL and have to live without RDP access.

 | Thanks for your answer.
Actually i wonder what can be that firewall rule because i wrote a small client/server program just to see if i can connect home with and it is also blocked. In the meantime as i said i can ftp home and i can browse the internet also. On the other hand public email servers are blocked so its maybe the reason they are blocking RDP also. |

 | If whoever wrote the company's firewall rules knows anything, they likely wrote the rules to ONLY permit what was needed and RDP is hitting the cleanup rules / implicit deny at the end of the list.
Without knowing the full setup, it's all speculation though.
