| Considering ditching home broadband for LTE I'm considering taking advantage of Verizon's $50 for 10GB of LTE data and dropping my $60 a month home broadband. As it is I use my phone the majority of the time for Internet access. Has anyone considered doing this?
How much bandwidth does watching an episode on the Hulu Plus app use? My phone doesn't have a Hulu app yet, so I'm curious what other phones use. Is 10GB going to be enough data? |

10GB might get you 10 low resolution movies. HD 720P or 1080P movies are about 4GB each from my researching the subject.
When they institute the 150GB cap on my AT&T DSL, I should be able to watch 30 HD downloaded movies per month for $45, if I do nothing else online.  You did not state what sort of home broadband you have, but I would think it allocated more GB/month than LTE would on a per dollar basis.
I also do not think we have seen the last of large scale technical problems with Verizon's LTE devices or network. I am keeping my old LG Voyager for at least another year before looking again at LTE. |

Verizon is offering double that data for each tier of plans for new subscribers until next week. So 2GB goes to 4, 5 is 10 and 10 goes to $20. I'd be saving about $40 a month if I make the switch and would have data everywhere!  |

I did not know they had extended the double data offer into 2012. Very good deal. Hulu has a feature to lower the resolution to deal with use on mobile devices. You might squeak by at the lowest resolution(288p). From this article, »www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2366593,00.asp, in PCMAG "...Hulu will automatically choose the video quality (288p, 360p, 480p, or 720p) best suited for your bandwidth to ensure optimal playback. You can choose manually as well."
Having data while mobile is very nice. I use a Verizon 760 USB modem and a netbook. I do about 15 lowest resolution short(5 minutes) YouTube videos and 15 low resolution short(5 minutes) news clips per month. Add in web surfing, and virus updates and staying under 5GB can be tricky. I use free public WiFi at restaurants/stores/hotels for longer or higher resolution videos. The big frustration with video is when towers get crowded the buffering and packet resend requests take a lot of time and use up part of the data allotment. |

im not saying it wouldnt work for you, but youd be taking a pretty big chance. do you have a smartphone now? is this $50/mo a new charge to you? would still want the phone and data plan if you hit the caps every month?
Looks like you have roadrunner...do they charge extra for TV if you don't bundle internet with them? |

| Only $20 of the $50 would be a new charge for me. I've always been paying $30 for mobile data. I managed to get unlimited data and unlimited tethering for $60 (so $30 of that is a new charge). I'm going to try canceling my cable and see how it goes.
Yea my cable company gives discounts if you bundle things. I never had TV through them though. |

Unless reliability is not an issue for you, I wouldn't use VZW as my only source of connectivity no matter what the cost difference.
I've had VZW 4gLTE here in Columbia, SC since the day they turned it up publicly and I have NEVER had a reliable 4g connection and even when I am connected to 4g I rarely see anything much better than 3g and I can see the VZW tower from my house.
I have it solely for emergency use because it's my job to be online all day and guess why I'm here??? My power just went out so I fired it up and sure enough, 3g and slow as heck and came here to see if there are any known 4g issues today.

| Granted I've only been a Verizon customer for only a short while, but I haven't had any issues with LTE other than the outages last month. I'm going to try it and if it's flakey then I'll run back to cable. |

You're forgetting the $20 month charge for tethering. You'll get an extra 2 GB with that for a toal of 12 GB. I wouldn't risk going over fo a potential $20 a month a savings. I can can you going over that 12 GB just on the Hulu not counting anything else you sue data for. |
