Taking TShoot Exam Next Week

No matter how many times you sit down to do this, you never really feel prepared... Yeah, it sucks having to work from a lab to keep up with your certs whrn you get moved to another department (I'm stuck working Information Assurance at the moment) but hey, I'm making progress

Next Friday is the day so I'm going over anything and everything.... One cool item to mention is that there is a simulaton of the lab on Cisco' s website to help familiarize folks with the exam structure; It's a must try.....

Thanks...

There is so much on the list to know, I wonder how much of I "really" know "cold!" The worst thing is "not" working with it on a daily basis and being relegated to "home study" and "theoretical" routing/switching constructs as your only means to stay proficient (GNS3 and home lab). Well, it beats nothing, right?

I recognize "when" I finally gain my NP, I'll have been away from "active" infrastructure operations for almost 8yrs. Time to turn to "I.T. Project Management" I guess...

Talk about "lucking out." *heh*

I was still a little uncertain due to not getting to use all my study time the way I wanted... Check this: I got to the testing center, which was running behind because the normal proctor wasn't there. Then stand-in proctor was having issues getting people logged on because it wasn't here thing to do that (it took her a couple of shots to access the system to start my exam).

Long story short, when I started the exam, the "first" thing it asked me was what would happen if I connected a "switch" and a "hub" together by their fa0/0 and fa0/1 ports (WTF, right?). The second question was a sim asking me to configure radius while keeping one group inaccessible to another (WTF to the 2nd power???) I looked up in the corner and the test they'd give me was Switch!!!! Ha, ha, ha, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (maniacal laughter...)

Once I saw this and told them, it was a wrap!!! They told me to reschedule at a later date; of course my money is still good...

As of now, I have no excuse to not pass this thing when I go back in to take it...

Study time commencing now....

Jay

One of the options "nothing, switch would bcast all unknown frames to the hub that was not learned
from the hub, while the hub would bcast / repeat anything regardless?"

WTF?! indeed, since when is RADIUS part of SWITCH?!

Keep us posted DocLarge

Connecting hub may result in
- broadcast storm
- Port shutting down
- users working fine until a bcast storm occurs

Radius on a switch
- They were asking about 802.1x-based port authentication.

or

- authentication using radius groups

Yeah, that was some bullsh**t

I passed the BCMSN back in Dec '09 so I recognized something was off from jump... I'm trying to schedule it for next week so I can get another week of studying down; "One and done" this time!

I love these hypotheticals... if they're talking about switch port 0 into switch port 1: spanning-tree disables one of the ports (blocking), if stp is disabled there will be a packet loop that may or may not be caught as a broadcast storm. Hub port 0 into hub port 1, nothing initially. The first packet on the hub causes a continuous collision (all hubs are half-duplex.) If the hub has any intelligence at all, that's a "jam" and both ports are disabled. [I've never used a Cisco hub, so I don't know if it's that smart.]

Plugging switch port 0 into hub port 0, and switch port 1 into hub port 1 will do the same as directly plugging switch ports together -- a hub is a virtual wire. Again, spanning-tree, etc. etc.

Any number of configuration options (and bugs) could change any of those answers. I'd need to see the configurations of both devices to give a complete answer.

** Side note: attaching port 0 to port 1 on an HP switch and then powering it on is the factory defaulting process.
