What Happened to Fox News

Fox News is no longer in U100. This is a pure money grab. What
a bunch of jerks.

Yep. It was moved to U200 as of 1/1

If U100 has CNN and MSLSD, they should have Fox News. Clark
Howard said it best. Some companies try and make money by
getting more customers; monopolies try and make money by squeezing
more out of the customers they have. ATT is still thinking like they
are a monopoly. It will take me a while but I am going to switch
my three services away from ATT

Re: What Happened to Fox News

The simplest solution to this problem is to switch from U-verse TV to something else! The vast majority of cable providers as well as both sat cos have Fox News in their most basic tiers.

Have any of you stoped to ask and see if perhaps Fox required this with at&t?

My guess is typical cable channel bullying.. FOX likely had a contract update that required AT&T to pay more so AT&T moved it to the higher tier slot... This happens all the time.. Cable channel sees more $$$$ in their eyes so they beg for $$$$ from the cable/sat/phone company.. forcing the company to either a) raise rates b) move channel to higher tier. c) drop channel completely

With Election season upon us .. I could see FOX wanting more money!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Every business decision will always be about the Benjamins. Carriage fees are paid on a per subscriber basis. Thus, the more subscribers that receive a channel, the higher will be the total feel paid to the channel owner. Channel placement is also something that is agreed to by both the provider and the channel owner during carriage agreement negotiations.

Fox News does have a higher per subscriber carriage fee than CNN. I assume that this did factor into the change in package placement for Fox News.

Get DirecTV or Dish.

All major news channels are in the first & cheapest package.

U-Verse packaging structure is really all about greed. For instance, where MLB network and NBA network are available with DirecTV in a basic package without any premiums, the ONLY way to watch these channels on U-Verse is to pay for U-300, which means you pay for Showtime, Starz, and Encore.

Really??

Looks like there are trying to get U-100 people to pony up more money to get Fox News Channel. And you can't tell me that Fox News is an expensive channel with expensive programming, because it isn't. (Neither is CNN and MSNBC, they are news channels with the occasional 1-hour documentary about recent events.)

I say go and dump it. Keep the Internet and voice, and go satellite.

Why would Fox News want to reduce the amount of viewers they can advertise to? And they haven't done so with any other providers. Sure, it was probably a negotiated deal, and it probably came down to ATT saying "we will only pay this much if we can move the channel to a higher package" - and they did so.

Yeah, and we know that News Corp has a history of accepting whatever is offered by a TV provider without offering any resistance.

By the way, Dish Network includes CNN and MSNBC in it's cheaper Dish America, Dish America Silver and Dish America Gold packages; however, Fox News is not included.

In order to get Fox News, you need to subscribe to the more expensive America Top 120 Package.

Wrong. Fox News is included in DISH Family which is half the price of U-verse's own U-family. AT120 is the equivalent to U100, yet it has FOX News and costs $15 less per month.

I personally recommend DISH, as I have DISH and couldn't be any happier. I have DISH because of their excellent equipment (arguably the best DVR on the market,) archive shows on external hard drives, great PQ, great price, TONS of HD channels.

DirecTV is also great though. DISH and DirecTV are very comparable services, both a tier above U-verse TV, can't really go wrong with either. What I would do, is see who has the channels you want, for the lowest price, and see who has the equipment you want for the lowest price. As I said, can't go wrong with either.
