WAP2-PSK Faster than WEP? WHY?

Hi:
I am using the High Speed Extreme package My modem+router is the SMCD3GN interface.

originally, I had it configured as WEP for wireless. And I noticed the speed was just CRAWLING.

I changed it to WAP2-PSK last night. And the speed is improving significantly. I am polling about 20MB/s on SpeedTest.Net. I noticed the obvious improvement in speed as well.

I don have that much expertise in cryptography. But I do know that WAP2-PSK requires more bit length than WEP for sure, then why am I seeing this significant improvement in speed?

Any guru can help to explain and help me learn a little more?

Much appreciated.

Thanks

I ran across similar, »[Snow] Slow wireless download with new router I don't know what computer you're using but the Mac messes up when using N mode with different security settings.
