[connectivity] Verizon ppp down, lost connection issues Westell

Here we go again. Hoping against all hope to avoid calling Verizon "tech support", being on hold for an hour then listening to some non-English speaking flowchart jockey tell me to reboot the modem thirty times. (After having to reboot it constantly just trying to reconnect.)

Westell 7500 gateway was replaced last fall by Verizon with another 7500. Tech was out prior to that and replaced module in NID and checked line out. Line is "ok" - I'm at the far end of range but right now getting 1.3 on an advertised 1.5 line. If I can keep that speed AND a connection, I can live with it.

Fast forward: Past three weekends have seen the return of intermittant/crappy dsl service w/ Verizon. (Well duh, it is Verizon after all...) Bringing up the gateway always shows 'ppp down'. Manual reconnecting works maybe 15% of the time, shut down & restart of modem works maybe 33% of the time. Last weekend I just shut the darn thing off & left it off for over an hour. Stayed up for rest of that day - dunno if it went down during week as usage then is limited to late, late night.

Speeds have been fairly good but it can be a long delay for web pages to be looked up & loaded.

Don't rush to get in line. Just had another (one of many) issue w/ the dsl... this time the ppp did not go down and gateway indicated it was online but service was hung up searching for pages. (DNS issue?????) This happens about as often as the disconnects - on a lucky day I get the 'combo platter'.

How do I get this into the Verizon support area?

Went a week with no disconnects (while in use) & just now had ppp down error while son was gaming on XBL & I attempted to watch a video.

What info do I need to supply for help or to get it moved into the Verizon direct support forum? I've already paid penance with phone support.

Intermittent DSL Sync issues looks to be the problem here. Make a thread in the Verizon Direct forum with all of this information. I don't think the moderators can move threads into there.

I have been having the same issues for the last 3 months. It's was bearable back then. It became more frequent now and I completely lost internet as of Saturday morning.

Have a ticket open, but after 13 years with Verizon with the same DSL line. I have an appointment with Time Warner to setup cable in 2 weeks if they don't fix it by then.

Will post my error codes once I get home.

Attenuation: 53.0. 31.5

Plug into your NID and see if it comes back up. A 0 margin is too low.

i can confirm that direct forum support has
significantly declined in both response time and
their ability to do anything about your problem

just pray the Indian you call does not have a head cold,
as that makes their accent impossible to understand.

Line test detected instability on your line and would suggest you to call phone technical support and request real time support with our Maintenance technicians. This Verizon process requires tech support centers to contact Maintenance and troubleshoot with the customer on the phone so they can do the research at that exact moment and schedule a dispatch if needed.

*sigh* Well, that was helpful. My line isn't stable. Duh. At least the typeface doesn't have an incomprehensible accent so score one for that. Score another one for not waiting on hold while tethered to one of the few spots around my house (most outside) where Verizon Wireless actually works.

I've read other threads here where people went to the direct forum & actually had things fixed - did I misunderstand??? (Serious question.) I guess I'm wondering why the Direct Forum exists if they cannot even attempt to correct an issue.

Thanks for all who responded. Now taking bets on how many hours I'll be on the phone...

as per my recent experience: only an Indian tech supervisor can escalate your call to have local CO provisioning network techs look at your line and determine if a premise visit is required. so when you call India, once he's done confirming your id, just patiently insist on speaking to a supervisor now that "line test instability" has been confirmed. as for direct support here - they are really no better than front line tech in india, so at this point - don't bother with them - call on the voice phone, sorry. don't be surprised if the phone guys have no record of your chat support exchange - even worse there is no way to email them your chat logs as to confirm that diagnosis.

Yeah, I've been down that road before. They don't even keep notes if you're disconnected and call immediately back until you're escalated up to US based support.

I honestly wonder if they don't have a way to detect our blood pressure and get paid based on the number of strokes generated rather than problems solved.
