| [Rant] HID Headlights/Foglights Am I not the only one who think these things absolutely suck? I'm often out walking after dark & absolutely hate the glare or being blinded by an oncoming vehicle from 20+ feet away! It's even worse when said vehicle is an SUV or truck w/ fogs on (even in clear weather!).
I've often felt like buying a high-powered LED flashlight (or maybe one of those old 1M-candlepower handheld spotlights) to give them a taste of their own medicine! Didn't someone say that one shouldn't get mad, he should get even? -- A king must have two thrones: one he sits on in public, the other in private! |

Bad because the they blind drivers that driving towards you as you stated. -- Caddy |

| reply to Madness What I hate the most is the idiots who think they can just replace the existing halogen bulbs in their headlamps with HID lamps with no further modifications or adjustments.
What they don't realize is that the reflector and lens of the existing headlamp was designed and tested for use with halogen lamps, not HIDs. When you put HID lamps in there, the light intensity and beam shape is all wrong.
In fact, I believe this is even illegal in a lot of places.
Our neighbor across the street from us has put in HIDs to replace the halogens in his truck. When he turns them on while his truck is in his driveway, it lights up the whole upstairs bedroom of our house!!! You can imagine just how much those are blinding other drivers on the road.
Stock HID headlamps are nowhere near as blinding as the custom retrofit jobs. |

Standard ligths were designed to let you see far enough to be safe while driving AND to keep other drivers safe too by not blinding them.
HIDs would probably be right too, if adjusted properly.
And I hate those morons driving with fog lights on at all time. Some of them say they use only their fog lights because they don't want to use their expensives HIDs unless they need it. WTF ?
(Also in my car manual, it is explained that when you change the bulbs you have to make sure the beam is not too high/too low and how to adjust it...) |

I got one ****** I see, LIFTED truck with hids in halogen headlamps. I swear I wish that thing would hit a tree and kill the guy before he kills someone else. I myself can't see anything when that jackass comes down the road.
I do not get it cops (at least here) loving writing speeding tickets... wtf they need to write up these dumb kids (mostly) with blinding headlights. |

When you put HID lamps in there, the light intensity and beam shape is all wrong. Proper replacements will give exactly the same shape. I have converted mine, the shape is exactly like the previous stock halogens. The only difference is the intensity - and I absolutely LOVE it. |

A lot of people just walk into an automotive store or order cheap from a website, pick an HID kit that looks like it might fit, and then they slap it in there and call it done.
Something is obviously not right with the way my neighbor installed his HIDs. Proper HID replacements properly installed should not light up a bedroom on the second floor!!! That beam is shining way too high. |

| Agreed on proper! One of the worst is a Mazda ricer I've seen around my area numerous times. It has (I'm not kidding!) lavender HIDs! How gay is that???? -- A king must have two thrones: one he sits on in public, the other in private! |

though whats annoying is when someone's headlights are right on level with your back window |
