Is MGM releasing Wizard Of Oz any time soon in widescreen?

I know that Wizard Of Oz is reformatted on Blu-ray to fit your entire tube TV but when I see it on my 1080p TV I have to deal with black bars on the left and right. Is MGM planning to release Wizard Of Oz in original widescreen format?

The movie wasn't filmed in anything resembling "widescreen" format!

Dude seriously how many times are you going to ask the same question over and over? Every time you ask this question someone explains that it was filmed in 4:3, it's impossible for them to ever release it in widescreen as the footage simply doesn't exist. Then you wait awhile and ask the question all over again.

March 2008 - »Can't find Wizard of Oz in Widescreen DVD format?
February 2010 - »Why is there no Wizard Of OZ in widescreen format?
June 2011 - »Looking for Wizard of Oz in widescreen format
and now this thread

The Wizard of Oz will NEVER be released in widescreen, it's impossible the footage does not exist. So unless someone invents a time machine and goes back in time to convince them to use a different type of camera you can stop asking in the future when it's going to come out in widescreen.

While you're in that time machine, you'd have to also go back a little further and INVENT a film format that's capable of widescreen, as well as convince every single movie theater to knock out a wall and expand to accommodate a larger screen, as well as upgrade all their projection equipment just to show this new type of film you've invented.

A little masking tape would do the trick!

Wizard Of Oz in original widescreen format?

Think about this, and hopefully put this question to rest, once and for all... it was NEVER IN 'original widescreen' format to begin with, ditto for "Gone With The Wind". If the technology didn't exist then to film in "widescreen", how the HELL could it be presented in that format today?

simple.
zoom to 16:9 and use vertical and horizontal pan/scan

seinfeld was never filmed in widescreen, however FOX 29 airs it in gloryous 16x9 HD.

Sony Pictures did something called CROPPING the original frame for a 16x9 frame. why can't the whizzard of ozz do this? if sony can do it so can the wizzard.

Do you realize how much of the screen they would have to chop off to get a 4:3 frame to fill a 16:9 frame?

and even if this was done, the vertical/horizontal panning/scanning because of the character movement would drive me nuts

It's coming out July 15, 2018.

(That should keep him from asking this question for a few years... )

Widescreen technology has been around for quite a few years in TV stations but not not widely available at the consumer level until the last few years. It is possible that Seinfeld WAS recorded in 16x9. Or they are just cropping. Are you sure it is true HD?

Cropping a 4x3 image to 16x9 means losing 25% of the screen area. Cropping a film like this may not be feasible at all because there are likely many scenes which would not fit the screen vertically and would require pan and scan. A wasted effort in my view. Just keep the entire frame on the screen even if it does not fill the screen.

Let me turn the question to the other end. What about those films that are wider (quite a large number) than a standard 16x9 screen? Should they crop the sides such that it fills the screen in the same way as the so-called "full screen" versions that cropped the sides to fill a 4x3 screen? NO WAY! I can live with the letterboxing even in my widescreen TV.

The OP specifically asked for the ORIGINAL widescreen version. There is no original widescreen and I am pretty sure that they do not want to see an edited widescreen version which was created from 4:3.
