Re: regarding the DPC3825 said by Paolo:does shaw put this modem/router in bridge mode for u or do they give u the login/pass and let u do it yourselfs Shaw has to do it. It gets flashed with a different firmware from the CMTS. |

lisiorPremium join:2011-11-04 Calgary, AB | reply to DanteX Could you educate me on how to flash a Netgear router and what with and more importantly why instead of using stock settings and firmware? Just got Shaw to put my Cisco unit in bridge mode and will pick up a Netgear router today. WNDR4500 looks good as I can plug my printer via USB to the router and not worry about setting up home network sharing etc. -- lisior Calgary, AB |

 | Using custom firmware like TomatoUSB or DDWRT adds in extra features for more control over what you can do with your hardware. Only if your hardware is supported. |
|
 | reply to DanteX Turns out my issues may be relating to the fact that my Cisco unti is only bonding to 4 out of 8 channels |
|
 | reply to Cornat Its not a firmware change, its a configuration change, same as when you change your internet plan.
TFTP server gets a new configuration file for your modem (same as plan speed changes), CMTS tells your modem to reboot, modem reboots and gets a new file.
Firmware updates take way longer to do, and several reboots.
There is a user account that would allow us to do it ourselves, but nobody knows what it is. -- Yes, I am not employed and looking for IT work. Have passport, will travel. |

lisiorPremium join:2011-11-04 Calgary, AB | reply to DanteX So I placed my Cisco unit in bridge mode with a little help from Shaw Chat (well, they did it), plugged in mint new Netgear WNDR4500 and guess what? HomeGroup can be established... imagine that! Which begs the question what on earth is wrong with these Cisco unit... willing to bet that my PS3 wireless speeds will be much, much better than on Cisco. You should be ashamed of yourself Shaw for peddling this low quality hardware... -- lisior Calgary, AB |

 | reply to DanteX How are you able to tell this?? |

My router should arrive with in the next week, once its here I will activate bridge mode to see if it changes anything for the better otherwise I am requesting a new cisco unit that will actually bond to all 8 channels instead of 4 |
