Tivo, Cable cards

Well, I got in the Priority (not beta) for the Tivo new software on Premieres...and wow, it's fast.

According to Tivo, they will allow multi-room streaming between two Tivos starting in late Jan/early Feb. This makes the stupid copyright broadcast flag moot because it's just streaming, not transferring.

Not wanting to bother, I bit the bullet and bought a Tivo Premiere Elite. $499 (ouch) + $399 Lifetime...but I had $550 in Best Buy credits so it's not really that bad.

Now I have 2TB in HD space and 4 (4!) tuners.

Now I just have to go through the fun of scheduling an appointment. I still don't understand why I need a truck roll to snap in a card and to have it paired. Oh well...

I have two lifetime Premieres at home, one has 20.2, and the other still has 14.9 on it.

I like the snappiness of the 20.2, but I cant wait to start doing the multiroom streaming on them.

if you got 20.2 before Monday AM, it should be enabled. If not, it will be enabled next Monday..unless we get lucky.

Icedcorn, I have the premiere Elle also, and I love it!

It's killing me that this major software update came out while I'm out of town! I won't be able to give it a try for a while...

It's always taken a truck roll to install a cable card, at least with the new pricing structure it's free...

That is, there is no monthly rental fee. It'll still cost $40 for the truck roll. And you have to give the guy a check right then and there. I couldn't understand why they couldn't just add it to my bill...

Make sure you email @tivodesign on twitter with your TSN to get the update sooner. Even if you're out of town they'll give you a priority upgrade. I opted for the Metrocast $3/month "service assurance" plan so I don't pay for truck rolls anymore.
