Intermittent Ethernet LAN faults on Motorola DVR

Our installation is all CAT5 and has been running well for 3 years. Just in the past 3 weeks we have intermittent link drops (green LED goes out for 5 seconds and comes back on) on the DVR only.

The other 2 STB's run fine. We substituted the CAT5 cable with a new one but still the same problem.

Here are some other clues:
1. Watching the same TV program on a STB simultaneously with the same program on the DVR results in dropouts on the DVR but no link dropouts on the STB.

2. The Modem logs (2Wire, 3800HGV-B) show no indication of link errors.

3. There are times when the DVR performs flawlessly as it did for the past 3 years for periods of time from hours to days at a time.

As an H/W & S/W engineer, my first thought is we might have a software problem on the DVR such that might be causing an unwarranted link timeout to occur.

Any ideas?
