FP-Ops: Jump Desktop

Anyone using Jump Desktop? »jumpdesktop.com/

Advertised as "an easy to use RDP and VNC client that lets you access your computer and apps".

I was thinking I can access/control the Foldy's from my iPad when I am away from home. The documentation looks easy enough to install on PCs. Then buy the control app for my iPad.

Thoughts? Advice?

Edit: I'm not a very good reader. RealVNC is useful on the local LAN, but would not be the first choice for remote access since you'd need to expose the system to the internet at large.

I much prefer the extra layer of security gained by using GotoMyPC or LogMein. Extra comes from first authenticating with their server, and then again with the remote system you are attempting to manage.

Sometimes, I'll login to the host PC running GotoMyPC, and then use that system to VNC to the 2nd internal system that I want to look at. (Window within window)

Cannot comment on Jump Desktop, I have been using RealVNC for iOS

I have used the windows product on All my desktop and internal windows servers, for years, going back to NT4

I have been using LogMeIn Free for several years, when I had difficulty implementing different flavors of VNC. It does, of course, require installation on each controlled computer, but as far as I am aware there is no set limit on the number of computers which can be accessed in this manner.

There is an app for iPad/iPhone -- »itunes.apple.com/US/app/id479229407 -- but, not being a user, I can't vouch for it.

I have been using LogMeIn free on my personal computers with the iPhone app. It has saved me several times when my family was having issues and I could fix the issue while at work. Thus far it has worked well for me....

LogMeIn for the few windows PC's I have or have to maintain, and PuTTY for the linux boxes (which have no GUI).

For windows, I've used everything from PCAnywhere to realvnc to LMI, and I like LMI the best, as I don't have to worry about forwarding ports.

Well, I am not liking Jump Desktop as much now because it requires me to login with a Google email account and it uses Google's servers to "automatically connect" into my different computers. Call me paranoid, but I really don't need Google any more involved with my life then they already are (ie Google earth picture of my house).

So I am now investigating LogMeIn. Think I may give this a whirl tonight and see if I can get the network connection, etc. set up. Will let you know how it goes.

I must say ... installing LogMeIn was as easy as pie. Worked first time on my iPad, iMac, both Foldy blades and my old GarG folder too. The GarG folder is running XP professional SP1 ... talk about an old OS!

This software is intuitive to install and use. I am impressed so far.

From my iPad I can get to all the systems ... works on my home wireless LAN and via 3G ... and since I didn't do any network configuration at all, I am not really sure how it all works ... but it does.

Sorry for all the revelations here ... but I just didn't think this was going to be so easy. Yea!

I used to so love tech snarls and puzzles because it felt so good to resolve them. These days I think easy is actually a good thing.
