| 2003 Expedition EB VSS wire? does anyone know if the vss wire is located in the radio harness that year? or where i can find it?
i unloaded my old truck and picked up this not-as-old truck and i have to wire my navi unit |
|
 | Why would you need to wire the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) into the navi unit? |

 | Is there SUPPOSED to be a VSS wire behind the dash? I would assume not. The VSS signal goes to the PCM somehow. You need tofind some wiring diagrams for the vehicle and identify where the VSS wires go and which ones they are and either tap into the wire at the sensor itself or tap into it somewhere inside the vehicle. |

This.
Most modern vehicles don't have individual sensor wires running through the vehicle for this stuff. Rather there is a dedicated data network of some sort that comes from the PCM which aggregates all that data.
Your only option is going to have to figure out where the VSS sensor enters the PCM and tap into that. -- I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources. | i will second you on that, the pcm then puts all this data in a neat little package and puts it through to the obdII connector, i have a scanguage II and everything and more that i would want to know is pumped through there |

| reply to Sc0tt If you don't find a reliable solution for the VSS wiring, Garmin makes a device that plugs into the OBDII port and bluetooth connects to several models.
It will allow you to track several engine parameters and OBD codes as well as speed, fuel consumption and accumulated mileage statistics. The data is stored as CSV files that can be viewed as spreadsheets.
See »buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=38354 for specs & features. |

Sc0ttKneedraggerPremium join:2000-11-13 Stockholm, NJ | reply to Sc0tt i guess i'll find a pinout of the PCM and locate it then. i thought maybe it was easy like my '99 expedition-----that had a VSS wire right in the radio harness for the speed sensitive volume control.
i didn't know if the '03 had that also. |

Vchat20Landing is the REAL challengePremium join:2003-09-16 Columbus, OH | Seems like you might be in luck as I happened to have found this gem elsewhere: »www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopi···?t=55154 Extra features such as these are always hard to tell without intimate knowledge of your specific vehicle. I just installed a new radio in my brother's Kia yesterday and the wiring harness adapter had a specific note that said the normal wire used for an amp trigger is actually used for VSS on certain model/year combos and a completely non-standard wire color is used for the factory amp on those models. So it was very specific to warn not to use this wire and cap it off if you were installing in one of these vehicles. -- I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources.
