YangerD join:2010-10-19 Scarborough, ON | [Help Me] DIR-655 Keeps Dropping Internet Connection Hey guys, I just recently got the DIR-655. It is the Revision B model and it is running 2.03NA firmware. I have a problem where the internet signal keeps dropping every so often, around every half hour or so. The internet light would change from blue to orange and would take about a minute for it to go back to blue (operational). This is a huge problem for me. What is going wrong here? |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a similar issue, and it has since stopped since I did the following: 1) upgraded to the latest firmware on the DLINK site (the "check for latest firmware" button didn't work, I had to do it manually. 2) turned off the "always broadcast" DHCP compatibility option 3) turned off DNS relay 4) changed the wireless channel setting from auto to channel 6.
I'm not sure which one did the trick, but give it a shot and see if this helps

1 edit | reply to YangerD What ISP modem do you have? Make and model? Check the Modems logs for any service interruptions. Check the routers logs for any disconnection messages. What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL? Some modems have a router built in, and it's best to bridge the modem. If that can't be done, then try using the DMZ for the routers IP address. It's best to leave DNS Relay ON. Turn Advanced DNS OFF if you have this option.
Can visit the DLink forums for info and help. Let us know. |

 | reply to YangerD Getting the DIR-655 Rev B is one of my mistake too: (1) Dropping wireless connections; (2) drop in speed unless I reboot the router (good neighbour policy my foot!); (3) ports 0 and 1 cannot be stealthed... just to name a few. The router is still on the original firmware 2.00NA. (2.03 IPv6 does not work in wireless.)
Based on the suggestions from DLink forum (also listed above), I am now only using wireless G (total waste of a high end router), not allowing the router to "auto" anything. The final part that seemed to stabilise the router was disabling the "Short GI" in Advanced > Advanced Wireless. |

| Funny my 655 works well on mixed G and N and Single mode N.
Not all routers are bad. Other factors can contribute to routers not working on wifi or exhibiting disconnections.
Like ISP Modems and service, external interferences, other wifi routers. Having al ot of other wifi routers around using up all the channels will make routers stop and disconnect as they sense the channel has interference and so they need to try to find a different channel thats open. So thats the disconnect.
I would use InSSIDer application and see who's around your and for any open channels. Congestion of wifi routers is a possible issue for you.
A little bit of trouble shooting might help out. |
