| [DIRECTV] We all knew it was coming(DirecTV) Dear DIRECTV® Customer,
At DIRECTV, we pride ourselves on delivering the very best technological innovations, programming choices and service offerings. In the last year, we have enhanced your overall television entertainment experience in a number of exceptional ways: #1 in Customer Satisfaction among all cable and satellite providers* An unparalleled variety of the best shows, sports, movies and entertainment More than 170 full-time HD channels, the most of any television provider Access to HBO GO® and MAX GO® anywhere with your computer or mobile device A smarter, lighting fast HD On-Screen Guide, optimized for HD television The most full-time 3D channels Coming Soon...Watch TV on your PC and mobile device with DIRECTV Everywhere
Above all else, we strive to bring you the best selection of movies, sporting events and television channels. Annually, the owners of these TV channels increase the fees they charge to DIRECTV for the right to broadcast their content. As a result, DIRECTV must periodically adjust the pricing and channel lineups of some of our programming packages so that we can keep these channels in your package.
This year, the programming costs we pay to owners of TV channels will increase about 10%, but we have chosen to adjust the prices our customers pay by an average of only 4%. On February 9, 2012, new pricing will be applied to DIRECTV® programming packages and services. Click here for more complete details.
We look forward to continuing to provide you with the highest quality entertainment, service and value. Thank you for your business. Sincerely,
Ellen Filipiak Senior Vice President of Customer Service |

BF69Premium join:2004-07-28 Camden, TN | I love how they tell you all the "good" things they've done for you before they announce the price increase. It's kind of like this.
DAD: Now son you know I love you. I give you a roof over your head, food to eat, clothes on your back, a good allowance. You have a TV and a computer with internet in your room. You have it pretty good.
SON: Yeah dad I know why are you telling me this?
DAD: Well I just want you to remember all of that because I am about to beat the shit out of you. And also rememeber I could kill you but I am only beating you severely so you should try to see the glass as half full. |

I am assuming here, correct me if I'm wrong - that contracts will be honored at the deals they signed on for? |

Yes in the past they and DISH have done that... though depending on the timing can lead to a bigger than expected jump at the end of contract. --

NuckfutsPremium join:2003-10-18 Joliet, IL | I know it is all over, was just saying don't move here because everything here tax-wise has gone up because of our lovely politicians. Since the collapse in '08 every government service here has increased something when people are struggling. |

Hayward K A R - 1 2 0 CPremium join:2000-07-13 Key West, FL kudos:1 1 edit | Well you know unless you want your state income tax (If IL has one) going up it has to come from somewhere. Get down to it sat TV is really a luxury... not life necessary.
FL is a no income tax state, and they are scrambling for bucks and cutting all kinds of stuff that hurts many.
And I will not be surprised to see my DISH st/local tax going up now already 6% above sales tax. --

And yes if well aimed and proberly locked down they will survive 120+ mph wind, and cable can't even start to repair until after power restoration. Have a generator sat is good to go or at end of intense storm instant, again not until power restoration when cable just starts diagnosing damage.. --

evilpeppardAlways Fight For FreedomPremium join:2003-08-20 Aurora, CO | reply to Nuckfuts I wish we could order only the channels we wanted from DTV, or any other provider for that matter. That would make us happy subscribers. We hate paying for so many channels we don't use. In fact, we hate it so much that even though we have been with DTV for 16 years, we cut the cord last week. No DTV, no other subscription tv service. If we want to see something, we'll use Amazon to rent a movie, or see a series. Otherwise, we get all the content and info we need off the Internet.
It has been such a relief to cut the cord, and it comes just in time as this rate hike looms. We've been on the fence for so long, and glad we finally took the leap. -- "My actions are not revenge...they are punishment..."

 | Every one should have known this was coming.. It happens every year.. Why would it not happen? Yeah it's not right that they do it.. but its a known fact that this time EVERY year it happens... an yeah your contract won't matter, you are paying a set fee for the service, they have the right to change that at anytime.. Read the fine print in the contract you signed. The adjustments each year are essentially like a Tax that is applied to Cell phones and Data cards, Your quoted a set price for the service, + any fees and taxes..
I dropped DirecTV a few years back and havent looked back.. Actually I have dropped all TV service except what I can get over my Antenna and DTV box and saved myself almost $100 a month! I just Download and Stream what I want to watch.. much easier and less of a hastle then dealing with paying for a service that I hardly used or watched! This all coming from someone who used to be a Satellite Technician with DirecTV a few years back. |
