HallPremium,MVM join:2000-04-28 Dayton, OH kudos:1 | [Services] Price deals on DSL ? I had a good price for my 6Mb/s Elite DSL service that's ran out now.... It's $40/mo since the deal expired. Anyone know of any offers ATT has ?
It looks like I might be able to get back down to $24.95/mo from this page, »www.att.com/dsl/#fbid=P5c-LbgD1Fq, and selecting "New DSL & New Home Phone". It then prompts for new or existing service (??). I can put in my info and get the rate above. Will it reject me if I proceed and tell me it's for new customers only ?
Not sure about making the switch to U-Verse yet (for phone and internet). |

HallPremium,MVM join:2000-04-28 Dayton, OH kudos:1 | I don't recall what I did last time but I suspect it was along the lines of getting a "new customer" offer, even though I wasn't. I think it took a 2nd call to get a rep who could (would) do it.
The $24.95 rate above was for a 1-year contract and since it asked for my (partial) phone # and address, it should know I'm currently a customer. |

the key suggestion I got was to tell the rep you will cancel [if the fee goes to $40 in this case] |

 | reply to Hall Received my first bill after phoning 800.288.2020 when my bill increased to $40. She reduced it to $33 for one year then it will increase to $43/mo.
When I asked for retention, she said, 'I am retention'...
They did prorate my bill so this month it is $31.39.
The interim letter I received 'pretended' I was a new customer with all the 'welcome' 'service activation' 'installation' 'registration' stuff including an order number with the above plan description.
I had asked them to remove the long distance completely but they ignored that..
Oh well..the bill is lower. |

In a similar situation and I think it might be time for me to dump AT&T. Mine went back up after I called them last year about the price, brought it down to $20 for six months. I'm to the point where if AT&T's people won't do the discount thing that they're still offering to new customers it's time, after around five and a half years when they were the only option around, for me to dump them. No matter how one looks at it, $40 for a 6Mb connection is ridiculous and even for $20 a month I could get something faster through Charter's current promotion, though their bandwidth limits are pretty stupid, I'm sure I could manage. Then again, I also went over the 150GB cap last month because I failed to pay close attention to it last month, which is annoying in itself.. Didn't even know they enacted a bandwidth cap until last October when I checked the e-mail account that's never used for the first time in ages and saw the notification and a few following ones about my getting close to the cap.
Called them about it and after 15 minutes of hearing the annoying music and the "wait" message every 12 seconds, which eventually added a "thank you for remaining to hold" message that would get interrupted by the "wait" message half way through. I got someone and talked about the issue and explained that while I would prefer to stick with AT&T for convenience sake, I couldn't justify doing so at $40 when I could get a connection that would be several times faster, for less. Would have used the $20 deal Charter has for 15Mbps but that only has a 100GB cap. (WTH?) Their only response was I could be bumped down to a slower speed, something I have zero interest in, eventually they forwarded me to the cancellation department where I waited for another five minutes before hanging up.
Gonna give it another shot this morning and if it's a no go I'm going to give Charter a call and inquire. |

Besides, they don't want broadband-only customers, they want broadband + TV or broadband + TV + phone, otherwise their price is too high. |

 | reply to PHOENIXZERO Called AT&T again and got it dropped to $21.50 for six months... Way better than $40 at least but yeah at that point it'll go up to $43, I'll just have to be more on the ball when it's going to end. |

 | reply to Hall I too am paying $40 a month for 6M service although it is the U-Verse variety. It sucks to be paying so much when you can see on their webpage that new customers can get the same thing for $25. Last time I called I got nowhere. I will try again, but I may have to switch to *gasp* Comcast for a while just so I can come back as a "new" customer to AT&T. |

HallPremium,MVM join:2000-04-28 Dayton, OH kudos:1 | I did call and the guy pushed and pushed and pushed U-Verse. I'm not dead set against it and may consider it... He did claim they have a "special" department that's U-Verse only and will make deals for existing customers in order to keep people. Of course, that's easy to say *before* someone is hooked. I'd keep trying. Really push them on the new customer offers. Most companies can, and will, give them to existing customers if you insist enough. |
