[TV] Cable Box vs Cable Card Channels.

Channel Scan
Click for full size
Guide
I just had the cable card installed yesterday by Brighthouse for my silicondust HDHomerun unit. It's a great product as I can now send the HD signal wireless throughout my home. I did find some differences, and perhaps someone could enlighten me as to why.

When I scan the available channels being sent through the card and standard tuner box, you can see, for example, channel 1278 is missing, although it appears in Windows Media Center (if I select 1278, a not available message appears).

When I go to the Samsung cable box and enter the channel 1278, it appears. There are a number of channels missing on the cable card that are available via the cable box.

Is there something that I need to do to make the same channels that are available on the cable box to be available on the cable card?

Did you get the SDV tuning adapter as well or just the cable card?

The SDV tuning adapter is a Cisco STA1520 that came with the technician. Incoming cable --> STA1520 --> Homerun

Trimline let me look into this a bit. It's a tough one because we're dealing with some third party technology I haven't put my hands on yet but this is always a good excuse for me to now isn't it

Channel Comparison
Here's another channel sampling comparing the channels available via the cable box versus the M Card. Thanks for looking in to this.

One more item to note. If I look in the adapter cable card log, the channels that do work show either a subscribed or unspecified, else, they show unknown.

20120111-11:18:23 CableCARD: vchannel 1209 unknown (not found)
20120111-11:18:23 CableCARD: vchannel 1209 unknown (not found)
20120111-11:18:23 CableCARD: vchannel 1209 unknown (not found)
20120111-11:21:54 CableCARD: vchannel 1090 (561MHz-1) access = unspecified
20120111-11:23:04 CableCARD: vchannel 1250 (399MHz-10) access = subscribed
20120111-11:24:04 CableCARD: vchannel 1235 unknown (not found)

Are you sure that the tuning adapter is working correctly? If you turn it off do any channels that usually work stop working?

Avail Channels
After unplugging the Cisco 1520, no channels feed in. It acts as the "tuner". I power cycled it and ran a rescan and none of the missing channels appeared. Attached is an XML of the channels that are being read by the Multimedia Cable Card via the Cisco tuner.

I'm beginning to think the Cisco box is not being properly provisioned, similar to the way in which the Samsung does.

I called Tech Support and they re-provisioned the Cisco 1520. It failed again and they are sending a replacement tomorrow. The agent said he had seen this before and a replacement resolves the issue. I'll let you and Tim know tomorrow.

Thanks - we are all learning something new...

It doesnt act as the tuner, if you just turn it off with the power button you should still get channels, just not the SDV channels.

You may just have a bad unit. There isnt a whole lot to provision with the tuning adapters. As long as the codes are correct on the account it should work, I actually just swapped one out earlier today for pretty much the same issue

Ahhh, the wonders of technology.

The technician just left the house. The reason that half the stations were missing is that a USB cord must be plugged in to the back of the Cisco 1520 and connected to the back of the Silcondust HDHomerun unit. By doing so, the other half of the signal is fed in to the cable card.

All stations now appear.
