 | [Cable] Slow speed in York Mills POI, time to upgrade the line! I have been getting below 5mbps when I should be getting 25 mbps during evenings for the past month and horrid lag in BF3. I called support last night and they told me that the York Mills POI is highly congested again. I tried pingtest.net and I got packet loss every time, maximum of 18%. Just want to let you guys know that York Mills POI is saturated again Please upgrade the line asap. |

 | reply to nicholas250 thanks for the reply. But do I have to live with 5 mbps with massive ping spike even though I am paying for 25mbps? I only use the internet and game during the evenings so I am pretty much stuck with 5 mbps. It wasn't like this before this month, it started happening few weeks ago and there was a day when the modem would just disconnect every 20 minutes or so. This is getting really annoying, the support told me they have submitted a request late last year for an upgrade but rogers haven't done anything yet so they don't have a date when it will be fixed. As a customer, quite frankly, I don't care, I pay for 25 mbps and I should be getting 25 mbps, I understand cable connection is shared so a 10%-20% decrease in speed is acceptable for me, but going down to 5 mbps and massive ping spike and packet loss is unacceptable. Hell with 5mbps I shouldn't have a problem with ping in game, so I am pretty sure the node or line is probably extremely congested during evening. |

1 edit | Channel Bonding |
I've been seeing the same thing in North York on an upgraded node with channel bonding over the last week, on the 24/1 package...
When was the York Mills stop sell lifted? Last time I checked after the speed increase, there was a stop sell because even with the link upgrade, the speeds were still unstable. And there hasn't been another link upgrade since then...

bbhog join:2010-07-05 North York, ON | The stop sell was removed on DEC. 21st 2011. However it seems there was never an upgrade done to the POI. There hasn't been any confirmation from TSI one way or another on these boards. |

After the last link upgrade, the stop sell was taken off York Mills despite slow speeds, and we had to fight to get it back up... Now it was taken down again in December.... Why exactly?
I'm really wondering about these network utilization graphs... Can we get Gabe to post some for us?
Or, give us links so we can see the utilizations for ourselves... |

 | reply to nicholas250 it seems to be a lot better tonight around 10-11 pm, I did some ping tests and no packet loss was seen (used to be at least 2% during peak time), and the ping and jitter is good too. I am crossing my fingers that TSI actually fixed to problem. I will check tomorrow night to see if it's actually resolved. |

What modem do you have and how did you access that page? I would like to check my own stats if possible. |
|
 | reply to nicholas250 I agree that I am starting to see a speed drop on York Mills. If the trend continues we will start seeing a lot of angry posts. For now it is still in the "acceptable" range but at peak periods it is below advertised speed. |
|
 | reply to nicholas250 >I pay for 25 mbps
It is 24/1... Not 25Mbps. 25/7 is FIBE. |
|
 | big effing deal. now get back to your cave if you have nothing to contribute.
and LOL @ fiber, you don't need fiber connection to support 25mbps, TSI shouldve just keep the cost down and use cable and dsl. Once you get to the speed of 1000mbps then ya maybe we need fiber. |
|
 | reply to nicholas250 FYI everyone, I tested the connection on speedtest and pingtest tonight. I got around 15 mbps at around 9 and upload speed at around 0.8mbps. Everything on pingtest look good so far, no more packet loss and jitter. Hopefully TSI will improve the bandwidth so we can get closer to 24 mbps during peak times. |

The FTTN speeds Bell provides such as 25/7, are named "Fibe". Fiber is to the local node close to the home (to be able to get these speeds), and not actually fiber to the home, as you seem to be assuming. »fibe.bell.ca/index.php
Bell & Rogers control & own the infrastructure to your home. TSI owns equipment, but its not near your home, and they don't decide where Bell or Rogers lays fiber for expansion/upgrades.
Teksavvy has NOTHING to do with this, and as such your comment
said by nicholas250:TSI shouldve just keep the cost down and use cable and dsl. is completely assinine. |

TSI MartinEscalations - Social MediaPremium join:2006-02-23 Chatham, ON kudos:11 | Well there still 600M available, so unless it gets over 90% we don't really look at stop sells. |

And to clarify... the problem previously went away with the last upgrade and stop sell... so it's hard to believe that the issue isn't cause by the stop sell being lifted again.... =/ |

 | reply to nicholas250 I can't speak for everyone else but I am experiencing notable improvement when I game, I can confirm that packet loss is completely gone. Thanks TSI. Your support is awesome |
