Re: [Cable] Slow speed in York Mills POI, time to upgrade the li

Just chiming in, my speeds were horrible last night from about 7:00pm onwards.

Well there still 600M available, so unless it gets over 90% we don't really look at stop sells.

So..... uh.. I just got response in the Direct Forum claiming that it has hit 93.90% during peak usage... yet its still not enough to warrant a stop sell....... any clarifications on this? :X

There is never a consistent answer.... I've been dealing with nightly slowdowns for ages yet Teksavvy still claims that everything is fine. I'm now starting to have trouble stream 720P content during peak hours. Luckily my games are unaffected.

Now there's going to be a speed increase from 24Mbps to 28Mbps. I'm guessing it will happen around April.

We will need another POI upgrade soon.

Ugh
such a useless increase in speed...
I'd MUCH rather get an extra M or two in upload speed..
If anything this will just cause more issue for me on my node

The Express upgrade from 12 to 18Mbps will probably have a much larger impact since it is a much larger bump proportionally speaking (+50% vs +17%) and is more likely to enable people to increase the number of things they do in parallel... at 24Mbps, people could already do pretty much whatever they wanted whenever they wanted without worrying much about what others in the house/apartment may be doing, going to 28Mbps does not really enable them to do anything new.

However, it is really odd to see Rogers announce more speed bumps when they still aren't quite done cleaning up the aftermath of last year's speed bump.

I signed up just after the last stop sell was lifted. At first my speeds were always maxed out. Slowly over the last few weeks the speed has been dropping.

Right now at 10:40pm the internet felt a little sluggish compared to normal ... download is 16Mbps instead of the advertised 24Mbps. If I check my speeds after peak hours it goes up to the maximum (ie 24Mbps+)

Just check today at almost the same time 10:42pm...speed down to 10Mbps. Less than half of advertised speeds.

Definitely time for stop sell. Every week that passes the speeds continue to drop during peak periods.

Right now, I can't even stream 480P on YouTube and Justin.tv..... When are the upgrades and stop sell coming?

Don't forget there is speedboost

Now I can barely use VOIP.... Congestion issue is that bad! Anyone else got similar issues on York Mills? I'm located at Don Mills and Steeles.

I can't even get 28/1 during off peak now. During off peak, I get around 10/1 I think.

If it matters to anyone I'm in the York Mills POI and was having BRUTAL speeds in the last month or two while still on ROGERS until I cloned my PC MAC address on my router, forced it to pick up a new IP then it was fast again. I'm set to switch to TekSavvy tomorrow for 25/1 service. This thread concerns me.

I tried cloning my PC's MAC address. Didn't help. Got a slightly different IP, but the speeds are still brutal. It's not reflected in speedtests though... Speedboost affecting it?

Yes, the darned speedboost screws up accurate tests. Try going to a fast website like Adobe and download a trial demo, Note your speeds.

I am in the south end of the York Mills area and my speeds are about 14megs during peak period but go up to full advertised speeds at non-peak times.

I haven't checked in about 1.5 weeks though, maybe I should try again to see if they have got a lot worse.

Bayview Village?

A family member is moving to a condo just south of Bayview Village Mall. Is this area served by the York Mills POI?

Would a Motorola Surfboard 5100 modem work? There will be only extremely light needs and even 3 Mbps service would be fine, so I figure DOCSIS 3.0 wouldn't be necessary. The reason I ask is because I just happen to have a Motorola Surfboard cable modem sitting in my closet and I believe it's the 5100. I see that the 5101N is approved on TSI's website, but the 5100 isn't mentioned. The 5101 apparently has the BCM3349 chipset, but the 5100 has the BCM3348.

Yes that area is serviced by York Mills. Unfortunately there is a stop sell so you won't be able to sign up with Teksavvy no matter how hard you tried. Go sign up with Acanac or Smart Communications which will be using an Aggregated POI.

Thought I'd share the latest news I got from Teksavvy regarding York Mills.

Hello,
The last news we received in regards to upgrades being completed are sometime in April or May.

Dunno if March Break has an effect, but it's off peak right now. Disconnected router. Torrenting at roughly 3.3MB/s. Here's the trace route.
