Can share files wired but not wirelessly

My Laptop IP 192.168.0.198 cannot see shares with desktop 192.168.0.199. Both PC's are win 7 with firewalls turned off. However the desktop can see shares on laptop. All computers are part of WORKGROUP. When wireless i can ping desktop.
When i plug Ethernet cable to laptop 192.168.0.196 I can access desktop files.
Also weird thing i have turned off password protection sharing but still asked for password (can live with that though)

(most likely) You may have wireless isolation turned on in your WAP/router. This would prevent you from being able to communicate between devices.

(not so likely) Just want to make sure you don't have TWO routers on your network (ie: a wired gateway and another wireless ROUTING access point - like a WAP54G or similar).

Can you ping the NAME of the PC from your wireless network?
Can you access the other machine by doing a \\192.168.xx.xx (insert IP address)

Check whether you have enabled 'NetBIOS over TCP/IP' under the WINS tab in the TCP/IPv4 advanced properties.

You should run the ipconfig /all command on the wireless 192.168.0.198 and on 192.168.0.199

Compare the info displayed for the DNS Suffix Search List and Connection-specific DNS Suffix

What are your PC names for both images? If your computer names are the same, you'll have L2 ARP problems.

Can you post an IPconfig /all from both computers

Both ipconfig's look ok........
Can you run the nslookup command then run nslookup tim-pc and nslookup tim-laptop

To use names instead of ip address you need a local dns server or you can add the names and ip's to each computers host file

You have a 2wire is it running the qwest software?

Not sure what you mean by qwest software

Just disregard that comment

Can you give more details about the routers/ap and how you use them

The 2wire you have has a built in local dns server that allows the use of host names for access

I agree it sound like my routers are not setup right but if this was true why can I access the shared files when I boot into my other OS on this laptop

You posted that you cannot access some shared files using a host name
And you can access all shared files when a ip address is used
So I think this is a dns problem yet nslookup shows that there is no local dns server

I would compare the tcp/ip properties in both os's
The ipconfig's that you posted show gateway.2wire.net for the dns suffix but the dns ip uses a dlink ip address
