*solved* [Windows] Motorola 2247-n8 with my linksys router

My speedstream 5100 died recently. The only DSL modem I could find in local stores was this Motorola 2247-n8 which is a Modem + Router.

Is it possible to get this thing to work as a standalone modem to use with my existing linksys router (which has DD-WRT firmware on it)?

Someone had mentioned 'bridge mode' to me, but I can't find that option anywhere when I go to the web UI at 192.168.1.254

You can just hook up your current router wan port to the lan port on the new mdm/router and put them on different subnets. You can also hook them up switch port to switch port but it wont allow you to use some of the router features.

Is there a tutorial/guide on how to do this sort of thing?

#1 In the router at Configure -> Connection, what other encapsulation(s) are there?

As need be, use the drop down menu.

#2 If in the router you go to Configure -> Connection and remove the check marks for DSL Auto Modulation and Auto Detect VPI/VCI, does the screen of the router change to look something like the sample screen that you see at

?

Note: If you decide to show a screen shot, be sure to NOT show your user name (private info).

The 2247 may use a different term for bridge mode, the encapsulation shown in the picture ether-llc may be the bridge setting......what other options are in that drop down box

The checkbox next to pppoe may disable the pppoe client

Don't worry, I put a made up username there just for these screenshots.

1. That is the only option.

2. The first screenshot shows the additional fields that appear after unchecking those.

3.* After unchecking PPPoE new options appear!!

I will enable bridging and see how it goes. Should I Auto Modulation and Detection VPI/VCI checked?

Solved! Thanks for the guidance everyone. I feel lame for not realizing unchecking PPPoE would reveal bridge mode.

If you don't need to use the 2247 wifi you should be able to disable it

You should leave the dsl auto modulation checked
When you uncheck the auto detection vpi/vci you must enter the vpi/vci values
Based on the username the vpi/vci values are 0/35

Just wondering..

Does putting the modem into bridge mode disable the wireless?

If not, I agree

Every wifi modem I've touched has the wifi enabled when bridged.....
So if this is a concern for you check it out

You may have problems getting the router to start a pppoe session if you don't end the modems pppoe session before bridging the modem......the simple fix is to turn off the modem after bridging it wait for 30 minutes then let the router start a pppoe session
