Re: ViaSat (Wild Blue's parent corporation) announces Exede

Nope, they didn't. The cell phone companies started it, LOL. And HN allows 5 hours a day for you to get all you want or need. Does WB?????? NO they don't. Well you do get a day if you dont mind waiting 2 months or more for a 31 day month.

Nope, they didn't.

Yes, they did it first, in the satellite industry. Another first (re: satellite industry), as explained by grohgreg:

"New subscribers now get a Download Bank...Existing subscribers unfortunately get back-of-the-bus treatment. We'll get the Download Bank eventually, but who knows when."

Of course, usually the fine print indicates 'we reserve the right to change our policies,' so, the Download Bank could become history too.

Hughes changing behavior before ViaSat gets going...my, my.

Their changes have made them better than Viasat-1. With the nightly download window I could easily download many times over the Viasat-1 caps.

On the lowest plan you get 250(or is it 300?). Anyway assuming it is only 250mb that means you can use 7500mb in 30 days. Also this number does not count upload, because Hughesnet does not even track upload usage. So I can use the Hughesnet plan more AND I can download as much as I want in the middle of the night. Sorry, but Hughesnet plans are kicking Viasat-1's plans in the ditch.

only thing I can see that Hughes has over ViaSat is the free FAP time.
So compared to WB's plans (Not the Exede Plans) , unless your awake during that time, WB plans were same except for pro plan which is better then Hughes, but, BUT, if you are one who is normally awake (like me) during the Hughesnet free FAP time, then Hughes is a much sweeter deal.
Unfortunately in this house hold I'm not the only user, So Hughes was never a good deal and Hughesnet would cost more per-month.
but its 250mb, 350mb and 450mb with the hughesnet plans.
Their prices look close to being the same compared to Excede's pricing, and like I mentioned, the only thing I see where Hughesnet is a better deal if not the same, is the Free FAP time, but they look the same if not more (Excede being more $)
this household with the 3 users we average between 350-450 a day, and we could easily double that, we just hold back due to knowing the cap limits

Actually, I know that is the advertised limits but I believe in reality, those limits are 250, 375 and 500 now. Acouple of years ago HN added 25% to each package and then they trimmed them back later on by 50 to 75MB and then when they gave out that extra a couple of months ago they gave back that 50 to 75 MB so the plans should all reflect a 23% increase over the original limit amount. thus 200+25%=250 and 300+25%=375 and so on.

Hughesnet is looking better, might look into it a little more.
not going to make any rash move, we're happy with WB, except for the Cap. would be happier if we had fiber available.

I've had wild blue service for about 3 years and have had more trouble than anything else. The service did function just enough to make it usable. I stay with them cause I don't want to start over with someone else. I just upgraded to excede and viasat. First off, they told me that it is faster than cable speed and I promise you that it is no where near cable speed.

Here is the real problem. I run a online business and use a very popular hosting company for my websites. ever since I got the upgrade I cannot work on my websites because pages just won't load properly. I contacted my hosting company and they tracked the problem back to via sat. I contacted exceed and they said they can't fix it. This upgrade has cost me over $10,000 in lost revenue and customer cancellations. So anyone on here that wants to tell me that exceed and viasat is just dandy is full of shit. I will be hiring a lawyer tomorrow and starting a lawsuit against them.

If you can get something else do that. Don't buy wild blue or exceed viasat you will just be pissed off all the time

@wildblue.net

Sorry for your issues. Since you run a small business, you might want to look into Hughesnet as I believe they at least attempt to work with small business owners. I have not known Wildblue to branch out beyond residential accounts.

That being said, I have read about a number of "quirky" issues with Exede. Some websites won't load at all because of DNS issues or problems with the accerlation technology. People just need to understand that it is new technology and there are bugs with it.

I thought I saw some Business packages, but they were WB not Exede.

Might want to contact Wildblue/Viasat, because if you ordered a Business package and only getting residential, they may had screwed up on the account

Interesting, who is exede and viasat? Two different companies with different installers coming to your business/home?

they told me that it is faster than cable speed and I promise you that it is no where near cable speed.

Users are reporting on Exede 12 mbps plan of speeds running around 20 mbps, so I must assume one is on an Exede 5 mbps plan?

So, where is one located?

I cannot work on my websites because pages just won't load properly.

Did you try TunnelBear?
