 | Priority User on W-Lan I have unlimited time access to the internet. As everybody, I only use some hours/day. My W-Lan is password prodected.
I would like to open the unused capacity for others.
In my opinion if I could define myself as "Priority User" who's requests are dealt with first then others could connect and use freely. Whenever I try to access a website, others simply have to wait a little.
Is this possible or is there another solution?
Thanks Michael |

 | reply to Yumi QOS does NOT stop someone with some bandwidth greedy app like P2P hogging the entire line.
As Anav noted, most pieces of equipment you can buy off the shelf have a VERY limited configuration set for this. Obviously gear that has a higher range of configuration options runs alot more.

 | reply to Yumi I didn't say it wouldn't work, just that like all things, unless everyone plays by the rules, there will be problems.
An analogy of what I'm talking about is say you're an exclusive member of some restaurant, and you go in for a meal. Right before you is a guy who isn't a member but just happened to get there first and ate everything already. Make sense?
Also, a REAL QOS solution isn't just about who gets priority in traffic, but like I said, most off the shelf equipment doesn't have the "other options" available. You may want to check the Wikipedia article for some of the other QOS mechanisms available out there.
