[Connectivity] Power Outages

group question.. does power outages knock your internet offline?

do you think that it is unreasonable to expect that the internet should stay up during a power outage? (i have sigificant battery backup systems on my computer/network equipment at home so power outages do not effect me.

I have yet to have a power outage since moving to Suddenlink in TX, but power outages did not knock out my Internet with Comcast in the northeast (at least for the duration I had battery power).

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect Internet access to last through an outage for a few seconds or minutes (less than 15), but I wouldn't expect every piece of power-requiring equipment to be on generator.

So long as you have backup power to your Computer, cable modem, and your home network if applicable, you should not lose internet service during a short power outage.

Longer power outages will require Suddenlink to put generators on their field equipment once their battery backups are drained.

My phone cable modem has a built in battery backup and during a power outage I can plug my laptop directly into it during a power outage to get on the internet.

i've experienced both ways. no idea why or how the plant lines work w/out ac power, but the most recent power outage i had 2 nights ago my cable modem stayed connected for the entire 1 minute of black out.

several months ago the power went out further up the road and took the cable offline untill power was restored. no idea what the difference was.

that being said, before i moved here, i was on a backwoods cable company (read CMA) and if the power went out there, it'd be hours for the internet to return.
