·AT&T U-Verse
| AT&T dropping ADSL2+ in Oklahoma City for U-Verse I received a letter in the mail today from AT&T saying within 45 days my service will be switched over to U-verse and I had to call in to authorize it. They are sending me a wireless gateway free of charge and waived the connections fees. Pro-rated of course. 12MBPS is what I signed up for and I live 4 blocks from the central office broadband facility.
Alot of the time I have noticed ping issues and they told me that they have to move all DSL customers to U-verse because of the heavy overhead on bandwidth. This could be a wise move on AT&T's part because serving a whole county alone does put a load on both services that are unequally proportioned.
Fiber optics to my understanding can handle many times more than the standard copper phone line for greater distances in comparison.
Please watch your mail boxes in snail mail for the same letter for switching services thanks. |

2. That fiber optic is only from the CO to the VRAD. It doesn't go all the way to your house. The copper runs from the VRAD to your house. |

|
 | Actually Madtown is correct, if you are CO based you'll get the adsl2+ version of U-verse if you dont get TV or Voice. If you are VRAD based you'll get the VDSL2+ flavor. |

 | reply to me1900 hmmm, what kind of ADSL2+ modem you have? providing the name of the modem will help us to clarity on what kind of DSL you have (ex. ADSL or ADSL2+) |

| reply to me1900 Well,I know AT&T offer Netgear DSL Model 6200 to replace Westell F90. I KNOW AT&T configured firmwares in all ADSL2+ and VDSL modems to have special kind of "certificates" to be approved to gain internet access. I dont know if you have older kind of Westell modem. Anyway look like ur line is upgrading to ADSL+2 which require new modem which you might getting Motorola NVG510 |

| Update. Im have been on At&t Uverse 12MB plan for a few weeks now. So far no problems. I enjoy the faster speeds and its a big help living 4 blocks from the CO. they flat out gave me a Motorola 2010-12 modem and Cisco Linksys E1000 router w/wifi. At&t isnt so bad as alot of people say. I think mostly got to do with unhappy people in hard economic times finding things to be grumpy about when they complain on At&t services. |

 | reply to me1900 I'm a retired computer/ phone tech with over 30 years experience and I've just spent over a month and 26 hours on the phone w/AT&T trying to get my friend's dry internet connection installed. First went to their website and checked availabilty of both U-verse and DSL. U-Verse cancelled the request saying it was not available at the address specified. While signing up for DSL the website could not recognize his apartment number and said to use the closest address (an apartment across the hall) which we did for the sign up. We then called AT&T and requested they correct the Apartment number in our order, they had problems and said they would correct it and call or email us to confirm. After several days with no call or email I again called and requested they correct the address and again they would send confirmation and they didn't. Finally a month after our request and a few days before install I called and they found the problem... the previous tenant had U-Verse... (which AT&T had said earlier was not available) and they couldn't continue with the DSL install. Of course they wanted to schedule a U-Verse install for yet another month away... After a dozen more calls AND elevated tier support AND getting a manager involved AND threatening to call Comcast they finally agreed to call in a tech to verify his connection and connect service the next day and assured me that yes the 2-Wire HG-B I had sent him for the DSL service would work with U-Verse since he did NOT want phone service. Friday came and went but of coure the technician never did (as I suspected they did NOT need to re-certify the connection, just turn it on.) So I had him connect a speedstream modem that he had there... eventually it did get a DSL light but he could not connect to the net. I figured it was an IP-DSL authentication problem at that point so had him connect the 2-Wire 2701HG-B but it could not connect... a few more calls to AT&T U-Verse support revealed that NO the 2-Wire HG-B is not compatible. It would have to be HGV-B and newest firmware or we could use Motorola NGV510 which although it is IPv6 compatible has a terrible reputation for not being able to stay connected or reconnect after outage. So now I am faced with the dilema of buying the HGV-B even though I know it will be obsolete within the year or buying the Motorola NGV510 thet doesn't work but will be a compatible (boat anchor) forever. |

| reply to man00 Ill inform you that I've had AT&T DSL Elite before they phased DSL out for U-Verse here and still I had NO problems with it. Dont know how so many people have issues. if your beyond or close to 18,000 feet from CO you wont get fastest service so why complain? I'm sorry but I will not join your fiasco in the hate AT&T clumsy party hehehe! |
