What 802.11 Wireless Cards for ZyWALL USG?

Just got a rude awakening and discovered that my trusty G110 cards don't work in the USG 100/200 (at least I can't get them to fire up).

Anyone know what cards are compatible with the USG?

From USG 200 manual page 949 Product Specifications

quote:
Sierra Wireless AC850, AC860, AC880 or AC881 3G card

But if I may suggest, go with standalone AP. It'll give you much more flexibility, better coverage (you can place it in better location) and it will be in the same price range as the PCMCIA card.

Thanks Brano - somehow I missed that in my scan of the manual.

My production ZyWALL uses standalone APs, but I have another USG 100 unit I use both as a backup and "on the go" and it's nice to have a self contained solution.

Go to the US zyxel website and select a product (I chose the Zyxel USG 2000). Scroll down, on the left half on the main page there are a few rows of tabs you can select for topics from Advantages to Specifications and so on. One of the choices is 3G cards. Select that to see what is compatible with the USG routers.

Oops you meant wifi.............. drats back to the drawing board.

Yep - having a heck of a time finding any cards that say the work with these units. I have to assume that there is an option, since the configuration includes and Internal WLAN interface, references to WLAN cards etc.

Perhaps I'll call ZyXEL and ask.

These are not Wifi (802.11a/b/g/n) type cards. They are 3G cards using the Cell towers (possibly as a backup route if wan fails).

BTW, all of these are now discontinued products according to Sierra Wireless web site. ZyXEL needs to qualify and support newer cards for this to be useful.

I am not sure if the user is asking for these. They are looking for a wifi card (like one existed for ZyWALL 35/70). I agree go with an independent Wifi infrastructure.

Just to reiterate the application, I like the card for a portable, self contained temporary remote VPN endpoint solution (without having to by a 20w), vs a permanent installation.

Called ZyXEL and they confirmed that there is one compatible card, the G-170S. Found then on eBay for $9 each, so grabbed a couple.

Well, you should grab a 3G card as well if you want to be truly portable.
