Are the mods on digital home ego-maniacs

Some of their remarks to posters, their bias such as removing some posts and not others. The typical ones being "off-topic" and other nasties.

I dunno about them. If they could, I'd image they'd taser people just for the sake of it. lol.

Too bad there wasnt another website in Canada that has as much content as them.

So

@shawcable.net

So start your own site with "better" rules... It is the internet!

Ego maniacs, no. Anal retentive to the nth degree, yes.

There is indeed "another website in Canada that has as much content as them," with "better" rules and "better" mods (hint: you're already there).

Admittedly, sometimes this forum degenerates into a "wild west" gong show, but I prefer this over Stalinist Russia any day.

Oh, at first I thought you were talking about this site. I skimmed over.

Now that I realize you are talking about that other site, I have to agree.

I was a member on that site for a while. I was tired of continually having posts moved and or deleted at whim. I deleted my account because of it. I do understand the need to moderate, but what I do not understand is how they feel the need to shape the site in such a way. It's rediculous.

There can sometimes be a vast divide between the realities of the incredibly complex systems we work with today and the common beliefs that you hear everyone constantly spout off and accept as "fact"

That divide sometimes causes great strife on the digital home forums.

Whatever, let users spread misinformation and troll uncontrollably, it's Interwebs - we don't all have to sit on Reddit or 4Chan =)

if that were the case the first post would be "your moderator at work"

Why do you suppose it's one extreme or the other? Just because some of us find the overly anal moderation to be absurd doesn't mean we accept the opposite extreme of absolutely anything goes.

No one is forcing us to participate in that forum, of course, which is why we're here and not there--the irony being that your post or something like it (suppose we were talking about this forum) would have never seen the light of day over there.

^ Hey, just as long as you're admitting it, no problem.

Obviously I agree (do not disapprove) with all points stated in the thread, hence my original post!

That's what I am talking about. I subscribe to some threads there and I receive the original response via email. When I go to the actual thread, it's removed. 9/10 times there was nothing wrong with the post. It is definitely "forum shaping".

Re: Are the mods on digital home ego-maniacs

I have to agree that that digitalhome.ca is heavier with their moderation than most forums. It's their forum, their choice about how they want to moderate. But I guess I just stopped posting useful answers on threads there after being irritated a couple of times where the moderator deleted parts of my post that weren't strictly responding to the original topic of the thread. I still look there occasionally for specific answers to specific questions, but I don't read their forums regularly because there is seldom anything interesting or informative with such strict moderation.
