| An Homage to Film British artist Tacita Dean's giant Turbine Hall installation at London's Tate Modern, created using 35mm film, is a love letter to a disappearing medium. She explains how she hopes to create something magical and spectacular to carry her message: film is beautiful let's keep it

Of course, this homage to film is being viewed on video, so loses a lot from seeing it in person, I'm sure (could you see the "green flash" on the video? I couldn't).
I never worked in video, so can't really speak to that, but I think her points apply equally well to still. I LOVE digital---it's freed me up creatively, no doubt. Yes, I see a difference between some of my digital enlargements and some of my best older, home-developed film enlargements. Interestingly, often not a positive difference---my newer work is often better both because I'm better and because digital does allow for easier manipulation. But what is definitely lost is the "experience" of post-production. The whole act of "hands-on", that peacefulness when I would close the door to my tiny closet darkroom and be alone and insulated from the outside world, the magic of seeing my vision appearing in the tray---all lost to new generations.
A quote from the film: "I need the time of film. I need the atmosphere of film." -- The truth of a thing is the feel of it, not the think of it. -- Stanley Kubrick |

However Film is dead, just due to lack of market. Film is an amazing format in what it can do but digital has opened up photography to many more people. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

I think I'd get sick from actually watching some of the movie it's that bad. |

This video is of a modern ARRI camera combines the precision mechanics of a fine watch, durably built and interfaced with digital controls.

Sadly ARRI, a benchmark of film cameras, has recently tossed in the towel on film leaving no real companies building film Cine cameras.
Then add to that Kodak, a world wide supplier of motion picture film filing for bankruptcy protection today of which I am willing to bet the film division will be collapsed leaving FujiFilm as the only other real supplier of movie film worldwide.
Film is on its deathbed, and considering the quality of frames that can be pulled from the low ISO, fine grain film, commonly used in Cine thats a damm shame.
