When I was in my early 20's I used to get a LOT of girls' phone numbers via Yahoo chat (1998) and talk with them all night long, most of them were extremely hot and invited me to go to nightclubs with them but I was too dumb & chicken at 21 to follow through. The last person I talked to was this cute sexy blonde doll who literally wanted me to rescue her from her abusive husband and told me to come and get her, that she would move in with me into my apartment, she said she would pack her things and run off to road at mid-night if I waited for her outside. The problem was that she was from North Carolina, a place called Charleston or Charlette, something along those lines. Yeah I remember the 90s, the allure of the beebopping modem and the hot chat (the precursor to sexting LOL). I was on Yahoo chat a lot back then (Canada:1 regulars!) We had many group meet ups in various places over the province. I went to Kingston and North Bay for weekend long events. -- The irony of common sense, it is not that common. | reply to milnoc Back in the days before the Internet, I placed three personal ads in New York Magazine. I got 50 to 75 responses each time. I met a number of the women who responded, but didn't find a girlfriend that way. But it was interesting to meet various people.
We would know within a couple minutes of meeting if there was any potential/attraction. It was best not to spend too much time a the phone talking ahead of time, because you'd develop a mental picture and end up being disappointed. I met doctors, women who had their own businesses, etc.
One response was from a woman in New York who had a daughter in Florida who was an assistant district attorney, and she would pay for her daughter to fly to New York if I wanted to meet her!
Another response was from a very attractive girl who neglected to include a phone number or address, so I had no way to contact her.
And one woman sent an explicit photo. We wrote back and forth a couple times, but I never got up the nerve to meet her.
So, it was an interesting experience. Funny thing is that Google has scanned/digitized the old magazine issues, and my personal ads are online for all to see. |

milnoc join:2001-03-05 H3B kudos:1 | I hate malls. And I'm on an anti-materialism kick at this time. I realized after twice moving into new apartments during the last five years that I got rid of more than half of my possessions, and it's still not enough. Gotta get rid of more useless stuff than always try to buy it in a pointless attempt to "buy" happiness!
Seeing the pictures of the women who have already read my profile, I'm actually surprised by the high quality of their appearance. Most of them are highly attractive, with a pretty high proportion into sports. One fifty year old woman runs marathons, and looks like she can kick the butt of many twenty year olds with those iron legs of hers!
Unfortunately for many of them, it all falls apart in their profile. It's often too short, with very little practical information about themselves. I'm not asking for the type of information useful to a predator here. I just want to get an overall idea on who they are as a person. A two line profile simply doesn't offer enough information.
Then again, for some, a two line profile is enough to blow it. -- Watch my future television channel's public test broadcast! »thecanadianpublic.com/live |

SavantPremium join:2001-08-12 Toronto | reply to milnoc Weve all read them: those Craigslist ads so good (or bad) you just have to pass the URL on to a couple of friends, before resuming your search for a couch/babysitter/love.
Or turning them into a musical.
Next week, as part of Vancouvers PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, veteran CBC broadcaster Bill Richardson and local singer/songwriter Veda Hille premiere Do You Want What I Have Got? A Craigslist Cantata, made up largely of verbatim ads Richardson has found while trolling Craigslist. (ref Craigslist the musical...? --

I think the only thing I would be allowed to paste here from your ad are the following words:
"STOP!" "PLOP!" and "Pi". |

A female friend of mine refers to it as "Plenty O' Freaks" I call it Plenty of Shit. Cause that's what it really is. Hate that site. Did go on a few dates with girls from there, but I don't think it ever worked. Met a few loonies as well. In the end I met my current gf and supposedly wife-to-be (as well as few ex's with whom it worked pretty well) on a paying site. Was worth every penny. |

But be advised I posted that particular ad just to see what kind of reaction I would get from Craigslist, and to compare the results with the responses from the other two ads. | reply to milnoc Met my wife on hotornot.com when she was in first year of University. Can't get much more superficial than that - but there were a ton of girls on there, there was a small price to communicate so it weeds out those who aren't serious with actually wanting to chat, and there's NO profile other than the picture and a one liner about where they are from...
I chatted with her by e-mail, MSN, etc. for 6 months before we even met -- we had a pretty good friendship thing going on - would chat on the phone once or twice a week, etc... When we decided to meet we just decided to "randomly bump into each other at the mall" at a somewhat prearranged time and location and "hang out for a few hours while Christmas shopping" (this was 10 years ago)... We had a good time, laughed a lot, and found we clicked relatively well -- but we treated it basically like we had just met and really didn't know much about each other - and just started dating from there. Married 2 1/2 year later. 6 year anniversary just past.
We mostly tell people we met at the mall... since that's theoretically accurate. |

Re: Anyone ever post a personals ad on Craigslist? Just went to my first PlentyOfFish.com meet-up tonight, where you meet LIVE people in a group setting!
Interesting night. Most of the people there were at least middle-aged, which suited me just fine since that's where I am right now. Even better, most of the people were of perfectly normal stature for their age, quite a few of them much more energetic than the norm. For the city of Montreal, this isn't too surprising.
I met someone very nice and very interesting. We chatted until the end of the meet-up, and I'm hoping we'll see each other again very soon.
It was a very good night. -- Watch my future television channel's public test broadcast! »thecanadianpublic.com/live |
