Why is the Verizon 3G network so unreliable?

This is getting ridiculous. I have an excellent signal (-67dbm) and a decent ec/io of -4 which should give me a pretty good experience.

I am using a fixed antenna with amp in a cradlepoint mbr90 router. (I have ruled out router issues because it happens with the aircard plugged directly into the computer)

The problem is I am being disconnected four to five times a day. My speeds have gone from 1000kbps download to 20kbps download in a matter of minutes.

It is to the point that I consider my Verizon service unreliable. How can they claim in advertising to be"the most reliable network" when they are clearly failing in that regard?

Its not just in your area it is also in jacksonville alabama, verizon is way overloaded here. Speeds are worse than dial up most of the time. Its a issue that they know all about but will not do anything to help the customers. To correct the problem the tower needs to be connected to a fiber cable instead of a T1, this would give alot more bandwidth. But I dont look for them to do anything. Good Luck

Fiber backhaul may or may not be the issue in your specific case. Depending on cell site spacing and usage, VZW's limitation may simply be spectrum, not backhaul.

It's the same in upstate SC. I can be downloading something at 150 KB/s, have it drop to 4 KB/s and sometimes even drop the connection. This is with a -80 dbm.

AT&T has recently upgraded the area to hspa+ but the largest data plan seems to be 5 GB a month. If they had a 10 or 20 GB a month plan I'd probably switch.

If they don't have the spectrum to provide service, then they shouldn't claim to offer it in that area.. I can't sell you a wooden chair if I only have one stick...

My service is at best hit and miss even though I'm only 5 miles from the tower. Used to be fairly stable and decent. I've noticed that the only thing that is constantly reliable from Verizon is the billing department. They never miss a beat.

Try driving up to the tower and see if that makes a difference. There could be interference.

The problem is BECAUSE THEY R OVERLOADED. At 230 am my speed is flying at 1.3mbps and at 9pm im getting .11mbps. They are selling speeds that they cant deliver. But I guess since in there contract it doesnt say 24hrs per day then i guess its ok. Verizon needs to wake up and do alot of expanding.....

I have been disconnected over 40 times today while trying to get some important work done. One minute it is showing decent speeds the next minute I lose the connection. Yesterday I had a steady connection all day long. Verizon does not have a reliable network and they should cease and desist all advertising claiming they do. It's false advertising.

I am sure I have asked this before but what the heck. Do live by any Microwave towers ? The reason I ask is that I have seen this once before . The user was in Florida . One minute he would be great and the next , no signal at all . It turns out a microwave tower was shooting signal between him and the Verizon tower . He ended up going to a directional antenna and aiming at a tower further away.

OK cant speak for anyone else but me. MICROWAVE ISSUES is not my problem here in Jacksonville Alabama. Verizon is overloaded.. They cant keep up with the demand that they are selling. I am a verizon customer and have been for 6 years. It has got worse every year. IT IS A SUPPLY AND DEMAND ISSUE, "There supply cant keep up with the demand" The FCC needs to do something about it. Like someone else said the only thing that is running good is there billing dept, because it never skips a beat......

I am only speaking to his situation . His description of how events unfold in his situation . Have no idea what is happening with you . Just trying to help him figure out his problems . You are right about an over taxed network . It is a problem with all the providers . It sucks . Some people hog what limited resources are available and screw everyone else. Here is hoping all the carriers improve the networks.

Up here in North East Ohio, I can't NetFlix worth a damn on 3G, sometimes even web sites are painful to load. But, 4G is blazing fast with web sites and I can stream full quality Netflix.

It may just be that the 3G network is overloaded. CDMA only has so much bandwidth available. 4G LTE is where most of the bandwidth is and quite reliable. I can pull down anywhere from 7 to 10 Mbps downstream and in some areas of my city I can pull down close to 15 Mbps.
