[Help] Waterproof cable splice

Long story short the ambient temperature sensor under my bumper along with the connector got ripped off. I have a replacement sensor and connector that has a few inches of wire. How do I splice this?

I'd recommend soldering it.

• First, find some heat shrink tube that is correct for the wire size.
• Slide the tubing over the wire, and then twist the wire together in-line; not a pig-tail.
• Solder it, and let it cool.
• Then, slid the shrink tubing over it, and use a lighter/ match to shrink the tubing.
• Wrap with electrical tape to insure the seal.

Done.

If you really want to go hardcore, they make waterproof heat shrink tubing. It has an inner layer that melts and forms a seal then the outer layer shrinks to protect it. Easier solution is what Juggernaut suggested, but I dab a bit of silicone sealer on each end of the heat shrink for extra protection from moisture.

Solder, liquid tape, heat shrink tubing
