But this friend of mine was trying to download "Promises Promises" by Incubus and there is a very strange phenomenon that occurs when he tries to "borrow" that file. He gets a bunch hits from something called "Magic Mushroom" - and they are all crap. It is like there is a concerted effort by this Mushroom guy to block anyone from borrowing this song. This only happens rarely when he, my friend, tries to download songs -- but this is clearly one of those songs that someone does NOT want you to get. The song is certainly special, but there seems to be an extra special-ness associated with this song.
Can anyone enlighten him on WHY this is happening and how he gets around that? He cannot find away to block all "Mushroom" hits -- and that would possibly work.
Thanks. |

Spam like this is rampant on one of the networks (Gnutella) it uses, and spammers will even hit on searches for files that have complete gibberish as their names.
I used to do this with Shareaza, and any IP addresses that responded to such gibberish searches were guaranteed to be from spammers, and I would then block them in Shareaza's security manager.
I'm not sure if Limewire Pirate Edition has something similar. Maybe he should check elsewhere, such as Usenet. I would also suggest Amazon MP3. I've often found music there I was looking for that I could not find on Usenet or torrents. -- I, for one, welcome our new Computer Overlords. |
