Re: Labor hours to replace rear valve cover gasket - 1995 Toyota

If you don't get any answers, I would wonder if your local dealership would tell you? Im not sure why that would be protected/confidential/sensitive info.

I've gotten an IM from a valued member here that gives me a pretty good idea. I'll summarize after all is said and done.

I wondered what the weather report had to do with it -

OK, had the job done - flat rate 3.64 hours to install a gasket kit for both valve covers. R&R ignition coil and plug #5, 1.00 hours.

This is the second Autolite plug that's failed in 115,000 miles and, I believe, taken out the corresponding coil with it. The side electrode broke off.

According to the tech, the rear cover was leaking oil onto the boot, so that might have been a factor in the coil failure. It must not have been a very big leak, since The oil level is usually down about a pint when I change it @ 3000-4500 miles, and that hadn't changed. I never saw oil on the floor or noticed oil on the underside when I changed oil.

Car runs fine, will see how mileage improves. Before I noticed the misfires, I was seeing about 3-4 MPG real-time decrease, so knew something wasn't right. Even after the noticeable misfires, it took a cold start to cause the ECM to throw a p0305 code.
