How do I adjust the multiplier on an AMD Phenom x 4 9850 Black Edition CPU?

In the BIOS setup.

The choice is greyed out. The MB is Foxconn A74mx-K which comes with overclocking software, but no way to adjust the multiplier. The bios is up to date.

You probably need to set something to 'user defined' in order to gain access to the multi

If it's not the 9850BE ( Black Edition) then the multiplier is locked. No way to unlock it that I know of.

I have stated in my posts that it is the Black Edition, and that the bios is the most current.

My bad. If it's BE and the multi adjustment is grayed out then I have no answer. Are you the original owner?

As you can see from this:

there was an update to solve this problem, back in 2009.

Thanks. I updated the bios to that version, but the multiplier remains greyed out.

Can you overclock with AMD Overdrive?

Tried AMD Overdrive, and it's not compatible.

Get rid of it and buy a Sabertooth. Foxconn employees in China commit suicide building these.

Yet the ones who build a sabertooth mobo are very happy and well paid right? (lolwut)

I think AMD has an overclock utility called Overdrive on their site for unlocked CPU's. »sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/···iew.aspx

I stated in my previous post that Overdrive did not work for me.

First thing first, Overclock have a chance to kill your pc. Try at your own risk. From this point, if it does work. I do not hold responsibility from this point on.

You do not overclock in the Smart Bios area.

Go in to your bios:
1. Fox Central Control unit
2. CPU Configuration(page 28 in the manual)
3. C1E Support: Disabled ----THIS NEED TO BE DISABLE, In order to overclock
4. Cool 'N' Quiet: Disabled ----THIS NEED TO BE DISABLE, In order to overclock

1. Fox Central Control unit
2. Fox Intelligent Stepping (This is where you control your cpu FSB and Multiplier.) I'm not sure how you want overclock it. You should be able to set these settings now once C1E, and C'N'Q is disable.

1. Fox Central Control unit
2. Voltage Options, You have to enable it to set how high the voltage you want.

If it still doesn't work... Make sure the 12volt 4pin is plugged in.

And if that doesn't work. Can you use CPU-Z and take a screen shot are something.. both the cpu, and mainboard tab.

Basic question, ignore it if you have done this already.
Did you reset the cmos after the bios update?
