Re: Rogers Internet Price Increase Notice Hi everyone,
Nicolas from Rogers here.
As we continue to invest in faster and better networks, greater accessibility, more content and new features our costs are indeed rising, even though Rogers will absorb much of these costs.
Weve recently added 38 new TV channels and 36% more content to On Demand. Were continuing to roll out the brand new Advanced Search function. We have also developed our Remote TV Manager App for smartphones, allowing customers to set and manage their PVRs while on the go.
Weve added SpeedBoost to all of our High Speed Internet packages. Weve also increased monthly usage allowances and increased the posted download speeds on many of our packages.
These are a few of the enhancements weve made over the last year.

 | reply to RogersNick Ha! We're internet users and could care less about your added television channels.
SpeedBoost(tm) -- remember your advertising? "NO EXTRA CHARGE!"
You slightly increased some (not all tiers) caps (yes CAPS, because this isn't your little garden forum where you get to dictate what to call your pathetic CAPS) from where you lowered them to not even a year previously.
It's a money grab with ZERO extra value to us, your happy, happy customers. |

@RogersNicolas Sorry Nick but you are not winning arguments about investments in other sectors of the Rogers business * TV channels * Purchasing of the Maple Leafs empire
Instead pls answer how the heck Canada is the Internet backwaters with respect to speed and pricing.
Or you need milk your consumers even more to post higher profits, pay lobbyists in order to whine to the Government to permit you monopolize the spectrum to squeeze out any competition and the consumers while providing less service
AND
while increasing already ridiculous profits. |

 | Okay Nick first of all people want higher caps, the reason you stated is an excuse for the price hike. Regarding tv channels let me guess rogers added 38 useless channels on top of the 100+ useless channel we already have bravo. Ooh on the internet I am not even going to bother commenting. |

@RogersNicolas You are posting in the wrong place. Rogers has invested in SFA, Speedboost OOOOHH I get 10 seconds of faster speed, I should pay extra for that.
I'd suggest taking your "social marketing" comments where somebody might actually believe you, because nobody around here does.
38 more channels eh? So we're approaching 500 channels and nothing on. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. 36% more content to On Demand How many cost extra?
Were continuing to roll out the brand new Advanced Search function When will it stop crashing my stb 90% of the time and actually work over 50% of the time
We have also developed our Remote TV Manager App for smartphones Ok, ill give you this one, it actually works most of the time now.
Weve also increased monthly usage allowances and increased the posted download speeds on many of our packages. When did this happen? 5 years ago?
I also didn't realize "Rogers will absorb much of these costs." meant making over 1 billion in profit. Just for comparison, BT, the biggest telecommunications company in the UK, only made slightly more profit then rogers with more than double the revenue. |

What about those people/families still on the old analogue television system -- they will not be receiving any of these "improvements", yet our monthly prices are also increasing.
Weve also increased monthly usage allowances and increased the posted download speeds on many of our packages. Strangely enough when I first got High Speed Lite, some 9 years ago, it was around 100 GB per month cap; later it was dropped to 60 GB per month; then to 25 GB per month (grandfathered on this cap, for now, anyways). Now anyone wanting this tier gets a whopping 15 GB monthly cap. All the while the price keeps increasing; and if the price does not go up you seem to decrease the service levels. -- What the large print giveth, the small print taketh away. - Anonymous |

Were continuing to roll out the brand new Advanced Search function. I havn't seen this yet -- but i get to pay for it anyway? Thanks!
We have also developed our Remote TV Manager App for smartphones, allowing customers to set and manage their PVRs while on the go. You mean a function that other companies have had for almost 5 years? And for a device i dont have? But still get to pay for?
And what "features" have you added to my Home Phone service that increases ITS costs?

38 new TV channels, where's TV-Land of wait it is wholly owned by Bell Media that's why. Oh yes let's not forget the All News channel, if you want to end it all watch CityNews it will help. 36% more content that no one in their right mind wants to watch with forced chronic epileptic brain damaging commercials. No thanks.

SpeedBoost was on it before the last price increase.
I haven't got one single "enhancement" since the last price increase. Not a single one.
Care to try again? |

 | Just adding my voice. It's not the $2/month that's a problem, it's the way they/you do it. Mid-contract, no choice, no added value, and then you try to justify it? Completely unacceptable. What good is a contract that locks me in to paying whatever charges you feel like throwing on their, stipulates early cancellation fees without defining what they are, and doesn't define what you'll be providing me? Who in their right minds at Rogers thinks this is reasonable? |

That you promptly sliced, diced into different packages and made available at the low low rate of $6.95 for 6 channels, 5 of which are pure garbage to watch the one that MIGHT contain some good on it. Moved channels that I was receiving around once more to "justify the shifting" and charged more again as now, the channel I had been receiving is now on ANOTHER "package" that is offered.

@RogersNicolas :Speedboost? Oh you mean that 5 seconds of speed that should be avalable 24/7? The one you kindly told us about /3/ years ago and promptly RAISED our prices back then and every year after that? Please save your drivel Nicholas, while I admire your attempt to defence the increase, Rogers increases its prices if they need to change their undergarments, It's getting so bad that they are cutting back on kleenex made of gold in their offices of the president! |

| reply to RogersNick Nick, can you at least tell the minority here (because not all Rogers customers come to this site) the best way to get a discount off of the raping we get from Rogers every month?
38 new TV channels. All useless. No good to me. So instead of managing to see Oprah on 45 channels, I can now see her on 75? I can now see news in 30 new languages? I don't have a PVR, what good is an App for that for me?
As for the network, it ain't fast where I live. It's at the same speed it's always been. The speed boost, when available, works only for the first 10MB, what good is that if I am downloading a movie from iTunes? It saves me what? 3 seconds?
Rogers needs to do better. Change the caps. 60 GB for me barely cuts it. And I am paying enough for that already. Dammit. Change. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

I don't have a PVR, what good is an App for that for me? Here's the trick regarding the cable TV issue that I discovered today and its so simple that I was floored that I never tried this before, now bear in mind I was not on any contract or promotion with Rogers at this point and paying full pop (about $117 / month all in)
Simply call in and ask to cancel, I ended up speaking to a pleasant CSR and explained that I wanted to cancel because for the TV that I watch (Sports) there are legal alternatives that I can pay for that are far cheaper,
Net result is my bill is now $62.79 taxes in (Rogers waving the fees on the HD PVR and a 30% discount on the cable package)
I can live with that.

| The 30% discount isn't that unheard of. I easily get it renewed every year when it's expiring.
Problem is, that now I have no recourse for further reductions, as I own all my boxes and dont pay any rental fees. They will not do more than 30% i've heard it from many sources. Thats as far as they're willing to bend even for longtime clients. -- GO LEAFS GO! |
